Yep, went with actual color over default grey. Performance is unreal.

That red is sharp. Hard to argue this fleet vs the Gladiator. Best of both worlds now.

I've always preferred Mickey Thompson Classic Lock wheels on 1st gens with a nice meaty tire. :mudding:

Amusing that my truck was caught in a local community group (non-Tacoma) post. All these people giving deer props for using the crosswalk when obviously that is what they should have been doing.

Sorry about cluttering up the 2nd gen Ulitmate thread, it didn't even occur to me to look where that was...anyway, I like these oem replacements. Do the new headlights come with the bulbs, so if one just wanted oem light performance that's all that is really needed?

No worries at all, plenty of 1st Gen discussion in there. Yes, the new OEM headlights come with Koito H4s from Japan. They are just standard bulbs, I’d still suggest an upgraded stock wattage bulb at least, but if happy with stock they have everything you need.

Do these bulbs require the 1st gen head light upgrade wiring harness?

I bought a used one off Jason but have yet to install it because the Broheim previous owner before me has awful headlight assemblies installed.

Osram Nightbreaker +200s are stock wattage, no harness required. While the Nighbreakers coating darkness is lighter than Philips, which should provide slightly improved high beam performance, I’d personally go with the Philips Racing Vision +200s which has the best low beam performance for a stock wattage bulb, noting that there is a compromise being made for the high beam.

It's very rare that I use the high beams.

Maybe I'll pick a set of these up and throw them in these awful housings and see what happens.

Once I save up for new OEM housings I'll install the harness and reference your upgrade thread to see what the bulb du jour is.

Curious if you compared clean aftermarket housings to clean OEM housings. I'm considering upgrading from my TYC housing but I'm not sure it is worth it. Planning on doing the wattage upgrade for sure. Thoughts? Also, did you sell your hazy OEM housings off of this truck?

Picked up the X2Power Northstar 24F today, and installed the HKB +0.5v voltage booster, per my battery thread, replacing a Less Schwab battery going on 5 years old. Thanks @daveeasa for lending me a voltage booster. I've got a booster coming now from HKB that should be here later this month. I googled for a coupon and used AUTO10 to get $40 off the battery with buy online and pickup in store.

I'll need to pick up one of the adjustable tie downs sold by a member here to appropriately fit the battery. I ran one on my 2nd Gen and it was a well designed product.

    IMG_0412.jpg

This is one of my favorite mods for the older trucks, as the +0.5v boost and more powerful battery makes such a difference in lots the small things. The truck starts faster, the windows operate faster, the headlights are brighter in addition with all other lights. It just gives a bit more pep to all the electronics in an old vehicle.

We've been getting on and off snow throughout the week, so the truck has seen a lot more use. The Tesla can handle it, but it completely trashes the car. And some of the snow rut piles in the neighborhood seem like they could contact the car body. Much of it has already melted today.

Unsure how I missed this earlier. I have not compared a clean OEM Tacoma housing to a clean aftermarket one, so I don't have solid data to share there. I always advocate for OEM assemblies as they will have the best performance, but if yours are in good condition and you're happy with their performance, it is hard to justify the expense. My OEM assemblies were done, 20 years old and hazed over, they went into the trash.

it seems to be so hit or miss on what’s got a bunch of piles and ruts and what’s completely melted…lol. I saw mill creek/lynnwood with some decent piles still in the road but my parents in Edmonds has nothing left. Definitely truck weather for sure.

Regarding your Tesla in the snow. Social media captured this person here in Vancouver. LOL.... Don't think that would end well.

I’m still making it through your battery thread (I love your threads). And I also have the same Northstar battery.

It looks like you went with the fixed +0.5v booster for your first Gen. And I know you also said that “test your own vehicle with a multi meter after installing…”

I will follow your guidance in your thread but do you think it’s just generally safe to plug and play the booster into my 04?

Again, thanks for your threads. They’re my favorite on TW

The 0.5v booster is what I would recommend, it is safe to use on your 04. Multimeter testing can give an approximate idea, but because alternator voltage fluctuates so much depending on conditions and demand, a single data point comparing before and after doesn’t really show the full picture and may be under/over the +0.5v change. I really like the voltage logger I used in the battery thread to understand the before and after, granted they tend to only last for a few months but it is enough to get the data of interest.

HKB recently got the mini boosters back in stock after being out for a long time. The truck takes micro fuses, but mini works fine, and is what is used in the picture I posted. I ordered one of the last micro versions. I’m sure these will sell out quick again:
