Has anyone taken the bed off 2nd gen and built a wooden subframe/flatbed? Looking to do this then build a camper on top of it.
Wondering what the best way to attach to truck frame is without welding. Would C clamps be the best or using the screw holes that are used to hold bed onto frame.

I have built several flatbeds over the years, although none on a Tacoma. Do not use c-clamps of any kind. You either want to use whatever holes you can find in the frame, attaching the bed with some quality class 8.8 or stronger nuts and bolts, or get yourself some squared u bolts to attach it. You can usually find a local place that will bend custom u bolts for you.

Bolts through the original bed mounts are your best bet.

    Jeff Foxworthy votes yes.

Seen several flatbed builds around here, but don't recall seeing one based on wood off hand. Wood breaks/splits should an accident occur, not nearly as structural as metal.

Ding ding right there, you've got 4 big, flat-planed bolt holes, why not use 'em?
