I had the same thing and needed to do ECGS bushing…. Might as well just do it imo.

Hey all…first post here and I can tell this is an awesome community. I am coming from a 2017 TRD Off Road 2WD and just got a 2023 Lunar Rock Off Road 4X4 and I’m in love. I’m going to do the 16” TRD Pro wheels and TRD OEM lift kit. I’d like to run 275/70/16 KO2’s but am wondering if this size will be close enough to what I want or if I should step up to 285/75/16? From my research it looks like 275’s on a 17” wheel will be fine with this combination but how about the 16” wheel? I love the 285/75/16 look but am nervous about rubbing and don’t want the ride to be horrible. If anyone has been consistently running this setup with this wheel combo with TRD lift and you can confirm it will or work and/or what I will need to NOT rub that would awesome. I have done a ton of reading here but can’t zero in on an exact answer. Thanks!

    A few.
The only issue with 285/75/16s is there almost all E-load 10 ply tires which are a heavier, thicker tire that can cut into power, mpgs, and ride compared to a 4 or 6 ply tire. I had a set of the 16" Trd Pro wheels but with 265/75/16s. I might go with 285s but in my imo they look better and bigger on an aftermarket 8 or 8.5" wheel and tire manufacturers recommend using an 8" wheel with 285s although alot of people still use the 7" wheels. Stick with 0 offset on aftermarket wheels to have the best chance of not rubbing

Yes but not with the TRD lift. I have the bilstein 5100s set to a 1" lift in front and a 1" block in the rear.

If you are using the 16 inch pro wheel and 100% do not want to rub, then either run a 265/75/16 (31 inch) or 255/85/16 (skinny 33).

Alternatively, you could buy the SEMA pro wheels from the 4Runner, link below, and run 275/70/17 for sure. Many also run 285/70/17 with that setup and have no problems. If you will be using your truck at all off-road you’ll prob need a cab mount chop with a 285 tire.

    Good luck and have fun!

Nice upgrade! A lot of variables will contribute to the rub factor, your wheel offset being a key one of those. Also, something to keep in mind when deciding on tire size - you're going to be more limited at 275, just not a lot of options compared to what you'll have at 265 or 285. Most of the 275's are E load, which may or may not be what you're looking for.

I'm not sure about those particular front shocks, but there are plenty of shocks that use the factory springs without the spacers to lift the front.

Thanks a bunch. Looks like I can get a 275/70/16 in KO2’s but yeah nothing else really. The 265 setup may just be the best way to go. I’m not planning on doing any major off road time…just a bit here and there so I don’t want to go crazy. I have the 17” SEMA wheels on my 2017 right now and like them but love the look of the 16” wheel with a big tire on it. The 285 looks perfect but sounds like it has some downsides that’s are big.

    Looks like 265 KO2’s and AT/3’s are E Load too…shouldn’t be a problem right?

Most of us on this site have done the 265 or 285 debate haha. Pros and cons to each, all depends on your preference/situation. Also something else to consider: I believe there are more 285 tire options in a 285/70/17 than there are in a 285/75/16. One of the reasons I opted for a 17" wheel. While I'm only on 265's now, I like knowing there's a lot of options in the future if I decide to go the 285 route.

E load tires - Are you off roading a decent amount? If so, go w/ the E rated. Much more durable off road. If not off roading, I'd consider a C or SL. Your ride and mpgs will thank you.

What are the downsides of 285's? I thought lift amount doesn't impact rubbing.

On another note, will adding a 1/4 top spacer or rear shim to correct taco lean void the warranty?

Right here, what Snuggles said. I'm on 5100s set on the top setting with a one inch rear block on SEMA 4Runner pro wheels running 285/70/17 SL rated light tire Toyo AT3s, great ride, calibrated the speedometer, no cab chop, no rub anywhere not even on my OEM mud guards. My alignment was redone after the new tires and the off road shop nailed it! No where close to rubbing anywhere and I tried to flex it some and nothing. Keep in mind I went from 265/70/17 and on the 4th setting so going up to the top I saw an slight improvement in the ride as the truck is barley showing any rake now, the 285s float and it is just a much better look, ride and like its ment to be with such a mild 2/1 lift. The 7 inch SEMA wheels to look great with 285s, wish a little more poke but I'm really happy with the look. The KDMAX Pro 9 tune was done the same day so I never felt any power loss and the mileage is about the same but the tune is where its at.

Do you offroad on your 17" wheels? I am trying to establish what would be best for my 2023 TRD Sport AC for moderate trail use when not on the road--pre- and post-TRD lift. The OEM 17"x7.5" TRD Sport wheels are arguably nice, but they're not my cup of tea. New to this, so I don't know if 16" or 17" would be better overall and in what offset. I am partial to the 2021-style SEMA Pro (PTR56-89210-F2) in matte black, but that is 17"x7". There are knock-offs available in 8" and 9" widths.

around town its average in 18.6 but will drop to 17 if I run it hard. The tune is what helps the most and maybe my TRD cai and TRD exhaust with 93 octane.

My truck sees its fair share of trails during hunting season, but that's mostly it. Really just comes down to your personal preference on the 16" vs. 17". Want a little bit more sidewall? Go with the 16's. If you're staying w/ a 265 tire there's a lot of options available for both 16" and 17" wheel sizes. If you're bumping up to a 285, maybe consider the 17's. I wanted the new T4R style wheels, which are only available in 17". Really pleased with them. I also wanted a wider wheel with a more aggressive offset that sat more flush with the fender flare. 265/70/17 Ultraterrains on FSW 17x8.5 +0:
