    16 HP Vanguard w/ 6100 carb question?

Pics from another forum. Person is rehabbing this motor that they got for cheap.

The question is what is the extra fuel nipple at the top of the carb throat?

What is the angle cut port at the top of the throat and above the choke plate?

Does this carb have a fuel shut off solinoid (circled)?Screenshot_20221204-114138.jpg Screenshot_20221204-114202.jpg Screenshot_20221204-114251.jpg

I thought this might be a dual fuel carbs, but others say it may be a float overflow drain. I find that odd if it has a fuel shut off.

I honestly don't know, but need closure. Lol.

The extra nipple at the top is probably for a PVC system where any crankcase vapors would be pulled in the engine and burned.

The angle cut port is the bowl vent I believe.

Don't know for sure about the fuel shut off solenoid, lots of modern engines have them for emissions concerns I believe.

I thought that too, but no air filter installed showing the case vent going to the filter. You can see the case vent port in both pictures.

Is the cc vent different from a PCV port?

    Dug in a bit...
From what I read it is the bowl over flow and originally had a small piece of foam over it, apparently the engine won't run if it is sealed.

    Thx, Russ.

You must have a better knowledge digger than I do. I looked for info last night for an hour.

I'm kinda sorry it wasn't more of a challenge for you.

We have a cold spell coming and it got me thinking worst case scenario what would be next in line to run an inverter all day/night? We have a generator, but let’s say it craps out. Would it be best to idle one of the vehicles or the tractor for an extended amount of time? If the tractor- what RPM?

I can’t think of a reason we’d need to do this, just curious. Our pump runs off 220v so we wouldn’t have water without a generator. Fridge could be rolled outside and kept cold, we all could sleep around the fully stocked fireplace.

I’m not an electrician, and I don’t know how much power you need to operate the well pump. But could you wire two inverter outputs together to create a 220v supply? I’d think that a tractor would pretty good for a 12v power source with the rpm’s set to ~1500 or more. Figure the tractor will burn 1/2-1 gallon an hour of fuel depending on the size and rpm settings you choose.

There are also 3pt generators you could buy for the tractor that run off the pto, that would be more effective, but might also be more expensive.

The PTO driven generators are expensive, but look to be cleaner power since RPM dictates cycles. I’m guessing the tractor wouldn’t be bothered running at PTO speeds for hours on end, but I can’t help to think a dedicated generator is probably better. Would hate to have to clear trees and disconnect the power to do so. That being said, even where we are the power hasn’t been out for more than a day so it’s hard to justify spending more than what we have. Just curious how long people have idled their tractors and at what RPM?

Well the longest I’ve ever run my tractor continuously is about 11 hours @2800 rpm for a large brush hog job. So long as you keep the rpm set high enough (1200) for the fuel keep everything lubricated a diesel will run as long as the fuel lasts.

A dedicated generator would definitely be better, but if that failed. The wire and plugs to create a 220v source using a dual out inverter would get you buy for a few days. Two 110v male plugs, one 220v female plug, and a couple of feet of 6/3 wire. It would only cost ~$40, assuming you already have the inverter. You could build harness and throw it on a shelf for that oh shit scenario. You can hook the inverter up to any 12v source, be it car, truck, or tractor battery with a couple alligator clips. It’d be enough to keep the water flowing so the pump doesn’t freeze.

Now you’ve got me thinking haha. I’m going to do a load calc on the pump and see if it’d be possible to run it completely on solar or at least solar back up. I’d need to see if it could handle the high inductance. It’s probably just a <1 hp pump. Need to find peak pull.
