What is best recommended power steering fluid for my 2017 toyota tacoma. Im still in my Min side but I want to top it now. need your inputs on it. I have read the manual that say dexron II or III. some say valvoline but When I check online its only for GM and form.

Mobil ATF D/M, which is what my local Toyota dealers carry as a replacement to the discontinued Toyota-branded Dexron III.

This stuff is compatible and I believe it helped with the weeping that I having early on:

The bottom of the rack boots showed signs. A short time after topping up, that all stopped.

I used the Valvoline Dexron VI/Mercon LV that comes in the blue container. It's also rated for Dexron II and III too. Bought 2 quarts and flushed the system. No issues several months and plenty of miles later.

I think it calls for Dex III, so as long as you use that you should be good.

^Turkey baster doesn't fit. The reservoir opening is only about 1/2". I used a suction gun (also good for filling the automatic transmission).

I jacked up the truck, steered the wheels lock to lock with the engine off, and pulled out whatever fluid I could. Didn't want to touch any hoses at the reservoir.

First, suck all your fluid out of your reservoir, then unhook the power steering line going to the reservoir, and reroute it to an empty milk jug or other large container. Make sure to plug the nipple on the reservoir so fluid doesn’t leak. If you find the hose isn’t long enough, find some vinyl tubing that fits inside of or over the return like hose. Fill the reservoir with new fluid, then jack the truck up, and cycle the wheels from lock to lock while checking fluid level. Add as necessary. Once fluid coming out of the tubing is clean, you’re done. You’ve then successfully flushed all the fluid out of your system, and now you’re good to go.

Definitely the method I’d reccomend, since you’ll get all the fluid out, whereas repetitive sucking out of the reservoir just mixes old and new fluid so you’re not really getting everything.

    My two cents.

Initially, no. Perform procedure with the engine off until the fluid coming out of the return line is clean. Then reattach to reservoir, fill, and then cycle wheel from lock to lock a few times. Then add more fluid if necessary. Cycle wheels from lock to lock again. Before starting the truck, make sure the reservoir is topped off. Then turn the truck on and cycle wheel wheel from lock to lock to bleed even more air out. Add more fluid as necessary. I don’t recommend running the engine when you’re actually flushing the fluid because there’s a chance you could run the pump dry if you run out of fluid in the reservoir.

I personally flushed my power steering system and refilled with Pentosin CHF 202 power steering fluid. It's quite expensive and not whats recommended but my reasoning was that long story short GM superseded Dextron ATF for power steering with CHF 202 due to the power steering lines leaking in the cold following three prior fluid revisions. Not saying to use Pentosin but i'm 80'000kms on it with zero issues and getting ready for a fluid change

thanks for the process and identification of material used. Went to local auto parts store today and got everything (same fluid you used) I need to take care of this. Now just need warm weather cause freezing temps in the garage are not warm enough for any maintenance activities.

Edit: got this done today as the weather was in the 50's. No issues - a little messy but that is to be expected. Used 1.5 qts to flush - wanted to be sure the old nasty coffee brown shit was totally gone. Drives easier now - never noticed it but after flushing the fluid I'd say the old stuff made the wheel seem heavy to turn - now it turns light and easy. 61K on the oem fluid which was nasty brown - definitely needed replaced.

I think I have the same problem here. 2011 Access cab, 136k miles. Has been groaning on turning the steering wheel first thing in the morning, especially on the cold mornings, (low 20's to mid 30's some mornings in the last two weeks here in NE Kansas). Have never changed the fluid. Steering is fine, and noise goes away after very short time. Advice? Also, on cold mornings just starting the truck it makes a dieseling sound for about 30 seconds. I have thought that this was normal (or at least common) and not a problem, right? TIA
