Check Engine Light

I parked our 2016 V-6 4X4 automatic Taco in the garage where it sat for a couple of days. When I pulled it in the garage it was fine. Yesterday when I started it, it showed check engine light as well as the track off light. I went ahead and drove it and the trac off light goes out above 30 MPH but the check engine light stays on all the time. Also, the cruise control doesn't work now. No wires have been disturbed that I can see from looking around the underside of the vehicle and it runs perfectly other than the lights and cruise being inoperable.

Anyone have a similar experience?

Cruise won't work until you get the issue resolved and the fault code(s) cleared. As stated, get the codes read and go from there

 

Same situation a few months ago. It was some sensor near the fuel fill hose. Replaced under warranty without issue. As others have said, cruise control is disabled when check engine light is on.

 

This is my IT solution to your problem:

 

Called the local Toyota dealer and they said "we'll make you an appointment to bring it in, we'll have a technician check it for codes, we'll charge you $180.00 and hopefully the codes will indicate what the problem is". Instead, I took it to a local repair shop who has done work for me before and they checked the codes for free and fixed it and billed me less than $100.00 and the truck runs perfectly and the cruise works!

 

What was the fix?

 

Tighten the gas tank cap more securely.
