My conceal carry class was instructed by 3 cops, 2 retired and 1 active duty. They all 3 said that if you find yourself in a position where you’re going to need to use your gun in a self defense situation…You don’t want to shoot to wound a criminal because more than likely he will kill you given the chance.

I've been told this before as well by a number of cops and non cops. It was made clear that its important to have something that will stop someone in their tracks and not something they can keep coming at you with. That said, I dont actually own a gun...but I think I'd like to now.

Nowadays I don’t leave the house without my daily carry gun. I hope I never need to use it but I will if necessary.

My 2 retired cop friends say the same.
They add the observation that if the perp can't tell his side, so much the better.

My brother carries but he lives in a different country. I thought about getting the conceal carry license now that they're more available in MD, but everything about weapons seems to be really expensive and I just don't think I can right now.:anonymous:

you should take the class, Ms. Mollie. CCW classes, at least here in AZ, are not that expensive. I think an 8 hour class will run you around $100

When you do, you'll need a place to shoot.
North American Gun Club near you is a little very pricey to join.
Waynesboro Fish & Game Protective Assn (my Club) is far more reasonable and will accept applications within a 50 mile radius.
    So that's an option.
    Plus... feesching :)
    North American ain't got that.

    https://wfgclub.org/

I know most of the current Board members and can give a recommendation.
There's a membership limit and I don't know how many members there are now.
A recommendation may come in handy.

Or Beard and I can show you "unofficial" places to shoot.
I'm thinking about a few places in Michaux State Forest that locals go to.

....most instructors are fantastic. All the paperwork, finger printing and training are all done in class. You show up, you leave with your CCW (that's how it works here... Laws may be different where you are).

I got the Chambersburg Rod and Gun club right up the road from me on 995. However, you need a sponsor to get a membership. It's only like $70 a year if I remember right.

It's the same place that host the Franklin County Fair every year.

I would highly recommend you going through and getting your CCP. As far as a gun to carry, there are a lot of good choices and some relatively inexpensive ones. If you know of any local shooting ranges in your area go there and ask if somebody can help you getting familiar with a few different firearms. Some ranges provide classes and even provide a variety of handguns so you can see what fits you best. That way you don’t have to make a purchase that you’re going to regret later. As far as price, you can get a pretty nice setup for as little as $500-$600, a small price for your life!
