Like how you shoot a turkey.

Mind you, that wouldn't be my first choice to use on an intruder in my house.
But if your shotgun is loaded with birdshot and you gotta use it... :notsure:

    We've argued this before.

People think birdshot is relatively harmless.
It is at long range (60 yards and up), though it'll hurt.
(That I know something about, having been peppered by a careless small game hunter.)

At short range, it's a different story.
So many thousands of rounds are shot at trap ranges that the inevitable happens now and then and the trap house gets shot.
It's an eye opener to see what #7 1/2 and #8 birdshot does to cinder block from the 16 yard stations.

    Help me out here @Squirt

Shorten the range even further to inside the house distances, and it's no joke.
The pattern is quite small and packs a helluva punch, though it still lacks deep penetration.
A center mass hit on an individual wearing several layers of heavy clothing will be a significant emotional event, at least.

OTOH, a hit to exposed flesh will leave a very nasty surface wound.
One to the neck will make someone plenty dead.

    But yeah, I'd choose buckshot.

You ever watch American Hero’s channel?
Episodes on gun evolution. I remember that old fat bald dude describing an old gun and said “If you were to shoot me with this and I found out about it, I’d be very pissed off “
    That’s funny right thar!
