:hattip::thumbsup: Thank you for sharing. Keep up the good work. I watched my best friend slowly drink himself to death by 42. He knew better than the doctors and would not listen to anyone. His mom would clean all the alcohol out of his house. He lost his job, had no money, and still found a way it get his drink on. I even offered his a job working for me and pay for his travel and let him live in my house. He wouldn’t do it, but he knew he would not be able to drink. I think of him often and miss him. We were like brothers.

    Congratulations my friend!!!!

Personally, I dont consider you an alcoholic. In my (usually weird) opinion...after enough time passes, you're not an alcoholic anymore. You were, but you're not now. No reason to carry the title with you forever. You've earned the right to be 'just another guy'. :fistbump:

I stopped being a drunk 31 years ago, my brother has continued being a drunk. It's sickening, but it's also a choice he's made. He's 56 and thought it would be cute to piss in my street, my neighbors have a 4yo girl. Whatever, just stay away from me and my house.

I'm proud of you buddy!!! The future of a drunk is generally bleak and lonely.

Not many get a chance to start the same life over again. The trick is not to relive it. Big Congratulations, Shane. Yesterday was my Pearl Harbour many many years ago & so far out of the ashes came victory….at least for today.

I would always make it to work, some days it was rough though. Had to make some beer money.

My uncle (moms brother) lived with my parents from when he was 8 until he moved out after their parents passed away. My uncle was an alcoholic, I never could figure out why he slept until 12-1 on Saturdays when I was a kid. I finally figured it out.

It was the opposite with my brother and I, I was the drunk. He drank, but not a lot. I sent him a text October 11th and told him I loved him. Haven't heard a word back from him. Oh well, life goes on.

Attaboy Shane, learning from your mistakes and taking every precaution to not ever make them again is something to be admired. I understand why you still call yourself an alcoholic, all these years later you probably still feel like you're walking the line and it wouldn't take much to fall off the turnip truck. Bravo to you, friend. There is so much more to life than the bottle.

It has been years the last time I talked to him was the settling Moms Estate .

The executor made a mistake of a few dollars in my favor. The way he acted you would have thought that small amount was going to make him homeless.

Nothing at all in common but the last name.

I'm going to a funeral tomorrow that alcoholism/depression was a big part of causing.

Thank you for sharing guys. Let's have a great day.

Acknowledge the past, but dont let it control your future.

    Sorry to hear Kirk.

I agree, we can't forget our past....we can grow from it though.

I'd also like to add I didn't just one day decide to quit drinking and walk away, I tried and tried to quit for years before actually doing it.

    Thanks Rusty.

I share because I want people to know we aren't alone. Often times we try and hide our problems/failures and it leads us down a dark path. Being open and honest helps others realize they aren't alone and don't have to be.
