Need lug nut key

I just purchased a 04 Tacoma and saw one of the lug nuts takes a special key/tool to remove it. Can’t find it anywhere in the truck. Anyone know where I can get one or a secret hiding spot where it might be on the truck?

 

Keys are aftermarket and brand specific. If your key is not in the glovebox, buy four sacrificial sockets and hammer them onto the lugs, then remove and trash them.

 

Thanks but that wont work. The lugs are round with the key part being inside the lug. Almost like a vending machine type key.

 

If they are from Toyota (McGard), you can go to the dealership, have a tech see what number key matches with your lock (the techs have a master set) and order a new key from McGard (or have the dealership remove them and buy a new set.

I dealer can likely just crack them all loose, you can drive home with a lug missing from each wheel with no issues. Then ditch them because they will strip out pretty easy if you try and use an impact on them.

 

If you end up going the "hammer a 3/4 socket over them" route if suggest getting a 12 point socket for it. They bite the lock better. I've removed at leat 100 of them over the years. I've always been able to use a punch to knock the lock out in a bench vise and use the same socket again.

 

Also try autozone or similar. sometimes they have a socket set for lugs in their tool lending area with different lug keys.

 

How is that gonna work on a round lock though?
