I’m getting ready to install SPC UCAs on my 2019. Doing some research, I see a lot of people opt to cut the old bolts while removing the stock UCAs.

I found the OEM replacement bolts, but I’m not sure what nuts, washers, and ??? parts I need with the new bolts. Any feedback on what exactly, in addition to the long bolts, I need to order from Toyota is greatly appreciated.

I realize I may no have to cut the bolts, but I’d rather be prepared with replacement parts in case that’s the route I end up taking.

If I had to do it again, I think I would cut them. The alternative was probably the biggest PITA of the whole install. You should be able to reuse the washers and nuts, even if you cut the bolts I would hope.

    Re use.

Most new arms come with their own washers that require you to install in specific directions. SPC for sure has its own washers.

I’d just reuse the bolt personally, it’s not that bad.

Thanks guys! I just wanted to confirm so I’m not missing any parts when it’s all apart. Ordered two bolts and will reuse the nuts.

+1 to this. It's really not as big of a deal as this forum makes it out to be. Just don't be afraid to move some metal out of the way, which you'll need to do regardless if you want to reinstall the bolts in the correct orientation.

I used this install vid and it was fantastic (it's on a 2g but they're exactly the same for this install). How to install UCA's and Coilovers on a Toyota Tacoma in 14 min - YouTube

It's good you researched and bought new bolts. Everyone says bending the fenders is easy but I found that not to be the case. Mine would have required cutting or massive deformation and it wasn't happening. Seems like 50/50 depending on how yours was fitted together on the assembly line so $30 is cheap insurance when you're at the point of no return on this project.

Also cutting & flipping the bolts isn't the end of the world that everyone makes it to be. Read this thread, also read this thread. Understand the risks/concerns and make your own decision. If Toyota's own FSM says it's fine, I'm inclined to trust their engineers.

I flipped mine and re-used the nut. Used new washers that came with the SPC arms. Used torque seal on the nut so I can visually see if it moves. I check it as regular maintenance now when I do oil changes/ball joint lubes. I have yet to see it move a single micron.

I’m going in with the intent to reuse the bolts, but willing to cut. From what I read I don’t feel putting the bolt in backwards is a high risk affair. Thanks for the reply.

No problem, good luck. If you do decide to cut I strongly suggest buying a carbide blade for your saw. Will go through it like butter and doesn't cost much.
