Do I Need a New Cat?

    This is for my fathers 2010 CRV

    Not sure what “not ready” means but does it basically mean my catalytic converter needs replacement?

    Did you clear a code or change the battery? You have to drive so many miles for the ecu to run all the sensors.

    Basically you need to have 60-100 miles of data run after a check engine light reset of battery swap for the computer to read everything for smog also not with as few miles that it has

    Usually that means the codes were cleared prior to the tests.

    It needs a shop to investigate properly and test the cat before replacing it.

    Or it has codes stored preventing it from setting status.

    Yea my dad doesn’t know how to clear codes, but he does let the car sit for awhile and then jumps it before driving.

    he prob jumped it and then drove straight to the inspection station

    do you advise if I maybe take the car for awhile, drive it and then bring it in?

    Yes put fresh gas in it and put some miles on it and give it another shot

    Put a battery in it, if it dies at the shop its a huge waste of time again.

    Cheap scan tools have readiness monitors that will tell you when the cycles have finished.

    I don’t think it’s the battery per se. It’s just my dad doesn’t drive and just lets it die. Battery is from 2020.

    The readiness monitors can reset when the battery dies, then it can take days to complete the cycles again.
