2020 revving and dropping into 1st at low speeds

My 2020 trdor likes to rev and then drop into 1st, most times when your slightly rolling like in traffic… is this most likely low tranny fluid? Same issue in my old 2006 and the dealer said their fix was to “overfill” the tranny.

going to do a fluid check myself but not looking forward to it(with only 12k on the truck)

It has always done it.

 

I’d test drive another on the lot and see if it does the same thing. They will downshift and engine brake by design. I’m not sure exactly what you’re feeling, so I can’t answer wether or not it’s normal.

 

Turn off your AC.

 

Mine doesn’t downshift, it stays in a higher gear.

 

Happens with AC off. Why should this happen even with AC on?

 

Trade it in for a manual.

When you shift to S I believe you can set the gear that it won’t go past so if you go S 4 you won’t go past 4th gear. At least this is how ininderstood it. Make sure it’s set to 6 ? I could be wrong but I’d look into it

 

But you said it drops in to 1st. That’s the lowest gear. These are hard to describe, that’s why I suggested test driving another.

 

Ask the dealer if your vehicle has the latest tranny software. See if a TSB flash applies.
Reflashing is an option also. Maybe then you will know if it's a software/control or hardware issue such as a shift valve.

 

Remember what rpm it revs up to?

I assume it is steady throttle or slightly decelerating, not if you are trying to accelerate at all.

 

While driving say in traffic or a slight decline, when I’m off the gas and go to press it again, it revs and isn’t engaging a gear, then drops into 1st.

Also the truck has the latest tranny software

you sure it drops all the way into 1st? that's pretty low. I would check the fluid level. this really does sound like low fluid. do you have an obd scanner? can you tell if it's running in closed loop or not?

 

I can tell my 2020 auto doesn't do what the op claims...never did. If your going 50 mph, and tap the brakes it will downshift to 4th.
