Going to be building a pre-runner style bumper in the coming weeks (months:jpow:), not many tube bumpers with winches out there so I figured I'd see what TW has to offer for references.

Goal is to stuff my winch as deep into the truck as I can to keep, will be chopping my cross member.

@EatSleepTacos 's bumper is a great example of what I'm going for.

oh yeah also, long time lurker first real post blah blah blah
also if theres a better spot for this thread lmk

Also if you haven’t seen it, @WarFab Armor makes a front chop kit with an IFS skid, winch plate, etc. Basically the perfect starter kit for someone doing the chop and building a front bumper. They can provide more details as I don’t know too terribly much.

    Thanks!
Iv been down the rabbit hole digging around your thread :D, love your build.

Your kit looks pretty dialed, more so then anything i can do, I like projects tho and iv done a fair bit of cross member/fab work on a LT 3rd gen pickup.
    Thanks for dropping in tho!

Glad to see more ppl chopping that chit off! You can always weld that cross bar back in higher, save some metal cost

Not really, I tried that. It’s rectangular and it was gonna interfere with the radiator. Some 2” square tube was perfect.

You can kinda see here how the outer parts of the crossmember are much larger than the rest for some reason.

Yeah, possibly. I’m sure with some effort it would work but it as worth it to me to spent like $10 on some square tube and start fresh.

    Stock-ish
Heres my front bumper I just made.
Grille/under headlight chopped up about 2.5" higher than the normal bumper cut.
Winch feet are same height as the top of the frame, could've tucked the winch higher but didnt want much more leverage while winching. Used a Habor Freight winch tray as a starting point.
Fairlead is tucked in from the tube, didnt want the fairlead/winch hook sticking out like a sore thumb like my old bumper. Too catchy on things.
Crossmember chop, frame sleeved and plated, mounts welded solid, something like 13 bolts total holding it on in 3 different planes.
Bottom tube under winch is angled up to have a half decent angle leading into the skid.
Going to skid under the winch with plate, and plate the front center section with thin aluminum plate to keep snow from packing the winch to useless, forzen block of ice. (Ask me how I found out).

That's a damn good-looking bumper, something like your bumper Jenga as hx989 put it is exactly what I was trying to imagen. Thanks for sharing!

I want a hybrid between this and the desert toy fab type b.
Why do so few people make a bumper that allows you to chop the lower crossmember?
I’ve been really eyeballing the all-pro full hoop. Then chop the lower cross member and get a skid plate made to go down from there.
