I installed this tonight. Instructions and pictures helped a ton. When I hit unlock 1 time, I hear some clicking in the dash, lights flash, and horn honks, but driver's door does not unlock. If I hit it a second time, both doors unlock. Any thoughts or suggestions?

    Thanks

Disregard. I figured it out. I cut the thick black wire instead of the thin black wire on IC1. Corrected that and it works.

I installed the keyless without problem about 2 months ago. I was only able to set up one of the remotes at the time. I got another remote in the mail but I am not able to get the truck to go back into program mode. I have turned it on and off 7 times until my hand has developed a callus. Any help please.

Did you follow step 1 of the programming instructions carefully?

Hi everyone. Sorry for the late arrival. I have a 2017 Tacoma SR5 Extended cab. Bought it used about a year ago. It does not appear to have the convenience package that would include keyless entry. I see the OEM package is still available on eBay for the same price as the OP posted. How long would you estimate it would take a regular Joe like me to install this thing? Or where would you suggest I can take it to get it installed for cheaper than the dealer might charge? Thanks everyone for the help!

took me about 2 hours and that was me taking my time making sure I’m tapping into the correct wiring, the spacing, wire slack etc.

Not hard at all can definitely be a DIY job if you follow the instructions. The wiring harness does look like a PITA but once you get the taps going it comes together quick.

    Couple of points worth mentioning:
Pull the lower steering wheel cover first before pulling lower dash and battery. Also, mount the keyless module last - AFTER finishing the wiring. It’s a pain to plug into the module once it’s mounted.

It’s not mentioned here but this kit isn’t actually a Toyota OEM part. I was kinda disappointed when I opened the kit. It’s an aftermarket system that is matched as close to Toyota as they can get(hence the remote doesn’t look Toyota). The warranty for the system itself falls on Toyota South East, not Toyota USA. So if anything does go wrong your OEM warranty won’t cover it unless you live in TSE territory.

Incase you didn’t know what TSE is, they are a private distributor for Toyota that operates in Alabama/Florida/Georgia/Carolina. Toyota builds cars, sends to TSE and they send it out to dealers. This is why you only see some “oem” Toyota packages(Tacoma SX) down south and not up north or out west. This kit is one of the things they add to cars at the port before they send them to dealers.

This is also why if you go to any Toyota dealer that’s not in the south they’ll look at you funny if you ask about adding keyless entry to your SR.

Thanks for the reply! My son and I ended up getting it done in a couple of hours. We were following along with another post on this site where the OP took step by step pics, so that was a huge help. It's working great and makes life a lot easier! Thanks again!

It's been a few weeks since I installed this alarm. For the most part it's working good but I wouldn't be posting this if I didn't have issues.

occasionally the horn chirps when I go over bumps or any incline. I've rechecked the wiring and all is in place with proper wire slack and tight connections. Just went and pulled the horn wire off the T-tap.

Its only happened once but the driver door will unlock itself. I do not know when, but I do know I lock the doors at night and wake up to the drivers door unlocked. Maybe unlocked got pressed while it was in my pocket, but unlikely because I would have noticed the lights/honk.

Also, my tail lights don't flash despite the T tap being connected properly to the green wire. I only get low/high beams for 20 seconds.

Kinda disappointed with this kit. I think money would be better spent on a full aftermarket system.

It’s a faulty module causing your issues. The random unlock happens to me as well and my kit has been modified to be mostly plug and play — meaning little to no t taps. This boils it down to the module for me.

The module will try to flash your tail lights but it never succeeds. I believe it is due to the setting your headlight stalk is in. I disconnected the high/low and ran the tail light flash wire from the module directly to my hazard lights. It’s a connector plugged into the back of the HVAC. I’ve never seen a truck that turns the high beams on when you lock/unlock… so that wire was removed and capped pretty quickly.

I would send your module back to the people that made it (I think their info is in this thread). Your horn chirping means the module is receiving and delivering a signal to do so.

Contacted seller. No warranty on parts from Toyota unless installed by a shop or dealer. Bummer considering I'd be out 2x labor if I paid a shop to do it. Luckily I did the install so I know exactly how to

Btw the OEM remote tailgate lock is compatible with this keyless entry system. Not sure if anyone has combined the two but mine works as intended.

Anyone have a source for these kits? I just tried to get one after finding this forum and thread, and the eBay link no longer works. Can't seem to find one anywhere. Thanks!

FYI, I gave up looking for this one. I found a slick deal on a Compustar 2-way remote system, $250 installed via GeekSquad. They show up on occasion for a good deal. Not only did it add keyless entry, it also added remote start, which is killer. I can confirm that my Tacoma did NOT have keyless entry, but it did have power locks. As long as it has power locks, the Compustar system will do it all. Good luck!
