    Eh, I had that same difficulty on stock fluid, Motorcraft, and Ravenol once each had about 3-4K miles on them. It's random for me.

    I’m wondering if he did the work himself or :spending:for it. I once had a guy bring me a tranny in a box (transmission!!!) when I spun wrenches for Toyota 100 years ago. He scattered it and couldn’t put it back together. I put it together for him and he installed it. Came in next day bitching to high heaven that he can’t shift it. I said “it shifted perfectly on the bench. You put the clutch disc in backwards “. He phkn went off for a few seconds and then stops, looks at me with a very slight grin on my face, and stomps out. To his credit, he came back in the next day, less full of vigor, head slightly down, and muttered “you were right. I had the disc in backwards “.

    Folks are rarely ever right. :D

    I have heard that clutch in backwards thing a couple times here also. That's a deeper dive though. I'm hoping that we can drill down and find some things out.

    Yeah... We are just gabbing waiting to see if the OP will show back up or ghost on us.

    @Minetacoma -- what's going on?

    Odd, how many miles on the truck?

    Mine had 30K and the difficulty going into first was random but fairly frequent.
    As soon as I changed out the factory fill the issue was gone and I had forgotten about it until we got discussing it here. 48K now.

    Around 18k. I changed from factory to MC at 5k, and to Ravenol around 10k. They all felt good initially but all got notchy with not too many miles. It’s not bad to drive overall as it is but it definitely blocks me out of first every once in a while. I’ve pretty much accepted it as normal. Maybe it will go away with more miles.

    I’m calling BS on all these claims of oil brand and/or oil age having a noticeable difference in shifting smoothness. I challenge all claims to a blind tasting test.

    The Motorcraft product I referred to is a premium full synthetic, I'm confident the product Toyota factory fills with isn't.

    I did some study about this before purchasing, the product is very popular in Miata circles. Below please find a quote from one such forum.

    STOP, don't type anything yet:

    I am well aware that this is just one unsubstantiated data point, not a full on engineering study. However I felt it was representative of the general consensus I gathered during my reading.

    "If you're talking about the Motorcraft, it was designed for use in the Getrag designed for the Focus, not the 'Stang. The Focus(especially the SVT) had a HORRIBLY notchy and hard to shift transmission from the factory and Ford called upon Fuchs to design a transmission fluid that would alleviate these issues. This is where the 'miracle fluid' legacy started as it quite literally made these cars feel like a new transmission was dropped in them. Then people started using it in all sorts of different transmissions with overwhelmingly positive results. I know the Speed3 guys love this stuff almost as much as we do(but we're better because RWD!)."
