Yeah, the hills on I5 heading to the northern section of Oregon pushed my '05 past what cruise could hold. Meanwhile my '02 Tundra with a v8 had no trouble and my '16 6MT got flustered trying to deal with 6th/5th shifts due to a bearing (since replaced at my expense).

When in doubt, v8? That's my takeaway.

Also, if anyone wants to cover the expense of regearing me to 4.56, I'd be happy to report on the outcome at no extra charge. It's an investment in collective knowledge.

    100%

Wish they would have put only one overdrive and a V8 together. But that's just asking for too much

I'm considering e-locker and 4.56 or 4.88 in my '05 but waiting to iron out the suspension first. One of those only one diff so I have to regear since it's so "cheap" situations.

What is the consensus on the best trans fluid that improves the 2nd gear “crunch”.

the motor craft or the redline ?

I’ve run Redline on other vehicles but Motorcraft, Ravenol, and stock on the Toyota. Honestly to me, it’s all about the same once it has a few thousand miles on it.

Redline was mediocre on my Jeep and it was the worst thing I tried on my Frontier (despite having good reviews) so I haven’t spent any time on it on the Tacoma. Not to say it’s bad at all but I don’t think it’s special.

So I know this is the wrong thread, buuuut, this morning I am up before all the family members and I roll to Home Depot to return a few things and get some gutter parts for the new woodshed and I can’t help but thinking how nice it is, when lazy and drinking coffee to roll the AT. Nice to have choices that is.

When I switched to redline I was shocked the difference I felt. Especially downshifting going into second or first! Then again I didn’t do until 150k so I can’t say if that’s just how good the redline really is, or just me noticing how worn the old fluid was.

So basically you've been reduced to being a passenger in your own vehicle, even when you're sitting in the left front seat.

I did mine at 40k with amsoil. there gets to be a point where you can feel it getting much less smooth.. for me it was 40-50k both times.

I can’t believe I have to ask such a stupid question, but what am I doing wrong here? Anywhere I put my seat my foot wants to sit flat against the dead pedal and I’m constantly contending with the hunk of crap plastic clutch pedal assembly.

I usually put my foot lower on the pedal. That pedal’s shape sucks.

    A few.
Not sure what your long term goals are for the truck, but in my ‘02 I went with the 4.56’s, factory was 4.10. It was my daily, and I just wanted to compensate for the 285/75R16’s on the trail. If I had to do it over I’d have gone 4.88 or 5.29. That said I felt a major difference with the switch I did make, I can go over Vail Pass east bound in 4th gear and not have to down shift. The gears in the ‘20 are a lot shorter and I pulled Vail Pass east bound last week in 5th with the factory 4.30’s. YMMV. It was still the best mod I did to the ‘02.

    -9° F this morning and my clutch pedal was S L O W.
Extra hard to push and super slow slow on the returns.
At the first stop sign I thought I was going to stall because I almost didn't get the pedal down in time before coming to a stop.

Fortunately there wasn't much traffic out this morning to get upset with me and my 45 second gear changes
