I'll try to be thorough yet brief.

I'm located in the rust belt and want one primarily for keeping the bed free of snow and ice as well as the fuel economy benefit one will provide. My SR5 has the factory bed liner.

I have access to the complete Toyota tonneau cover on the used market and the Extang 2.0 hard tri-fold (through work). Despite these two folding covers I am giving strong consideration to the Synetic SyneTrac-Pro retractable tonneau cover because it should be more secure than either of the tri-fold covers and it would allow adding a rack for transporting my tandem fishing kayak.

I am hoping readers can provide me with meaningful criticism of these three possible options. The Syntec brand is relatively affordable but most of these manual retractable tonneau covers are far more costly - this is my concern. If these options are not 'Good Goods' there is no point in continuing to pursue them.

The problem with retractable in snow/ice belt is... the box/can that they roll up into freezes up, fills with ice. Had a Pace Edward's (on a F350) that this happened to all the time. Didn't care for one cover, just pull it from my truck. Last 1/3 doesn't open. Which to Bakflip MX4. If I were you I would go with Estang 2.0, don't know anything about them. But didn't for the other two styles. Hope this helps.
