I just ordered a set of new winter tires from Discount Tire: Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5 SUV. Size is 265/70/R16, same as my existing summer tires.

I currently have a stock '22 Tacoma Trail Edition, which has 16x7 bronze wheels with a 4mm offset.

I want to buy new wheels to mount the Nokians on permanently, but I'm a little unclear what my options are. Various "fitment checks" on various websites pop up with different, seemingly conflicting results.

So I have some rudimentary questions... hoping somebody will be willing to bear with me and answer them.

    1. Can I use a 16x8 wheel with 0mm offset with this tire?
    2. Is there any limitation on what wheel width I can use, beyond the width of the tire?
    3. Does matching the borehole size matter?
    4. Are there any other things I might have missed that might restrict what I'm able to buy?

    Thank you!

    1. Yes.
    2. Narrower is "better in snow and slush". I run 265-75-16 Toyo GSi6 on the stock TRD rims.
    3. Toyota is Hub Centric and that is the best setup, IMO. If you get a quality aftermarket aluminum wheel, it should come with hub-centric rings.
    4. Get Clone TPMS sensors, like Autel 315MX, then copy the OEM sensor ID#s, upload each one to each clone sensor, and you do not need to program and reprogram your truck every time you want to swap wheels.

Had to call around to get the Hakkas in Bellingham… they’re basically impossible to find in Canada since one of their key manufacturer facilities is in Russia.

planning to go south of the border in a couple weekends to grab them.

Have you picked up your tires yet? If you did what do you think? Post some pics up if you have a chance. I’m getting a winter set up too. decided on the Nokian R5 as well and a set of 2017-19 Pro wheels. The tires are about 3 weeks out.

I picked up a set of 16x7 OEM wheels on kijiji20221113_113941.jpg 20221113_113922.jpg from a 2017 SR5 and mounted Michelin X-Ice 265-70-16s with cloned Autel sensors.

LED interior, license plate, and fog lights. More to come.
2nd Gen steelies can often be found cheap from someone who upgraded. I found a set with good 265/75 /16 Cooper AT's on them locally for $100. Probably going to run them as is this winter and go with real snows next winter. They clear just fine BTW.
