I repacked my wheel bearings and noticed the CV boot was leaking. If I'm just going to replace the whole axle, is there any reason not to just drive it until it fails? How will I know when it's done? Noise? (Pic for entertainment purposes only, lol).

No reason, you will just have grease fling around but that’s all, I’ve seen members post on here driving their trucks 25k plus with a. Torn cv boot.

Make sure the brake drum is thoroughly coated, or else you'll get squeaking.

The problem is, this is the 2nd Gen forum.

You should ask over in the 3rd Gen forum. There is some one over there that will know the correct answer. No doubt

I've been driving two years with a torn in half outter cv boot. With the new boot sitting in my back seat the whole time...

I pump grease in it on occasion, not sure why i do this, maybe i just like flinging grease everywhere.

Also, while you're at it, check your headlight fluid.

The grease keeps the rust at bay!!! My headlight fluid was good but my blinker fluid was a bit low ;)
