Hey Gang, looking for a little help from the hive mind. I love my Tacoma - DCSB Offroad, MT - but life changes (kids are nearly grown up) are leading me toward wanting a larger bed, versus the larger cab. Truck does get worked (firewood, farm stuff), and I've been eyeing a camper, which would go easier in the "longer" bed. Shopping around the internet, and all of the "hardcore" trucks are crew cab/short bed.

Chevy - Colorado ZR2, Trail Boss,
    Chevy - Silverado Trail Boss
    Ford - Ranger Tremor
    Nissan - Pro 4x
Toyota - Tacoma Off Road can be had in the Access Cab Off-Road, but not the trail or Pro
Ram - Rebel and Power Wagon
    etc.

Is there one I'm missing? I can get close through careful optioning, but I suspect most would be a special order type situation. The OR ACLB is the leader in the clubhouse as of now...

    Thank y'all!

It is BS you can't buy long bed Offroad with a manual.

If I buy other than a Toyota, this will be why. I made sure to tell them in my "new buyer" survey that a manual was THE reason I bought a Tacoma. As soon as that isn't true, then the market gets much more open for me.

Most people buying the hardcore versions of trucks aren't buying them for their ability to do 'work,' they want the looks of a pickup truck.

    Define "Hardcore."

Because to me, the word "hardcore" means something that is not bought at a dealership and/or isn't legal to operate on public roads.

Are you sure the Chevy Silverado Custom Trail Boss can't be had in DC standard bed? I mean, it's got shit-all for interior features but does that matter when you're off road?

I can't remember if the Tundra TRD Pro is available with a "long" (standard) bed. I do know it's only crew max because it's hybrid only.

Honestly, not "that" hardcore - but stuff like "I want the factory locker, skids, and damper option, in a longer bed". Some of the full size trucks, with careful optioning, can get you the locker and skids, but finding on a dealer lot is tough.

I want the goodies with a warranty. I've built - and now sold - a few rigs that were fantastic off-road, terrible everywhere else, with random problems (Jeeps, LS-swapped stuff, etc), and I want something that I can comfortably daily, camp, and farm work. Like I say, with fam and life changes the time to keep stuff running while also doing the work is getting harder to come by. I'm working the Tacoma now, but that 5ft bed is a pain for many things. I've used the roof rack way more than expected, haha.

On the build and price page, the Silverado is crew/short only. At least for now. From what I'm seeing the Tundra is Crew/5.5 only.

Looks like you can get the 2023 Silverado Trail Boss (either Custom or LT) in a crew cab standard bed. I didn't check the 2022.

Tundra TRD OR (either SR5 or Limited) can be had in a DC SB or CM LB and the Limited CM LB is also available as a hybrid.

Good find on the Tundra - so similar to the Tacoma, "Access Cab" long bed in an OR, but not a Pro. That would work

We live in the woods, so the length does get important (breakover too). The crew cab/long beds are really tough to deal with.

I just want a classic "Extended Cab 6 ft box", but in the upscale equipment.:):bananadead:

Looks like the Tundra is the way to go, then.

Alternatively, if you really like the Silverado, you could buy an LT and block lift the rear 2", since that's all the TB is.

:fistbump: Agree 1,000,000%. These trucks are already small enough in bed capacity. 5' is next to useless for more than groceries. Absolutely no engineering or mechanical reason you can't have a full long bed with a manual transmission.

Gas F-250 regular cab FX4 or the 4x4 with a rear locker. It's probably just as a capable as all the other trucks listed. The only diwnside is size, a fullsize with an 8' bed gives more room for a camper. Worst case scenario you hook up a trailer and throw a Jeep SxS or a 4wheeler on it.
