I bought a rear bumper from SSO a while back, and when I finally got it I had it powder-coated to match. Unfortunately, the color swatch I picked out was a little off. Had this turned out to be a bit darker like gunmetal I wouldn't really care, but it looks too much like primer to me. Has anyone here had luck matching paint codes with powder-coating? Specifically silver. Looking for some recommendations on a better color to have it redone. I didn't have it painted black because it would have been the only black part of the truck, but I'm beginning to believe that's the only option. Anyway, has anyone ever dealt with this before? Thanks!

    Oh look, another mod....
It's difficult to color match paint. Especially silver paints. Some silvers are blue-ish, some are white-silver, others are dark silver.... Then you have the issue that paint on steel looks different than that of plastic.

You will never get a true match, just a blend. My recommendation, get it in black.

You know what you have to do. Paint or PC the bumper black, along with the flares and the front valence. Embrace the OR lifestyle.

Hard to tell in a photo, but I lovs this Rustoleum Metallic color. Pretty much a dark grey with some sparkle in it. Its not the normal flat/satin/gloss black, and its just noticable enough to tell when the sun shines on it and sparkles and then also just looks black in photos.

Yeah, matching paint is difficult enough, that’s why body shops will blend paint or repaint entire sides/panels, let alone trying to match powder coat to paint. Like anything in life (clothes, home decorating, etc) trying to match and failing to do so, looks worse than just finding a contrasting color or shade.
Sorry about your luck, probably best to live w it, bed line, or spray paint it.

That color is sick! Also loving the Henry Ford reference. Anyway, just an update. I reached out to the business and he told me he could take it back down to the metal and do a zinc primer (I'm guessing he's upselling)so I could paint it. What do you guys think? I wouldn't be getting the protection but im already over spending on this project.

Look at the pic again. What black would it be matching?

After you scratch the bumper over rocks (that's why you got a steel bumper, right?), what do you plan to use to touch it up?

I would run the bumper as-is. When it gets scratched, touch it up with some semi-gloss silver rattlecan as closely as practical. After a couple of years on the trails, your truck's paint will have enough pinstripes, that the bumper color won't stand out any more.

You would have better luck using cerokote. It’s more like paint and easier to match.

Black would look better because if bumpers aren't chrome they're usually black.

Since you already paid for powder coat, and it is silver. I'd just leave it and see how the PC holds up and wait to see if it gets scratched or any body bumps into it. Then paint it black or dark gray. When the truck is dirty the difference in the silver won't be all that noticeable, might not be that noticeable as it sits now. The bumper is a different material and is covered in a different finish.

I’d just leave it, or bed line over it. It’s going to be reeaallly hard to get it to match.

Careful with the Zinc primer. Many spray paints don't recommend painting over zinc (galvanized)

Ah, I thought you were meaning the fender flares as I've heard some people call them the wheel wells. My bad.

Most of us go with black because its easy to touchup after a day on the rocks.

Great feedback everyone, but I've decided to run it for a few weeks as is and run it up and down these mountains. If I can't stand it I will pull it back off and change it. Again, you guys were such a resource for me. I have to say It looked good when it was bare steel.
