Has anybody rerouted the switch for their LED bed lights to somewhere in the bed? That seems like the most sensible spot to put it. I have searched and cannot find anybody else that has done this.

I put a waterproof switch in one of the side pockets. The pockets are easily accessible but not waterproof. Worked. Any other ideas I might change

Someone on the forums did a Mercury Tilt switch on his tailgate.

When you open and tilt the tailgate it triggers and the bed lights would come on.

If you do a search on YouTube you can find a Chris Fix video where he rigs a truck bed up with an interrupt switch that closes when you open the bed. It was pretty slick IMO.

There are threads on here, but they're hard to find. Most of the people that do this are camping in their bed. Some found it easiest to run a separate set of lights for rear switching. Others tapped into the rear door switch so that the truck thinks a door is ajar whenever the tailgate is down. And at least one attempted adding a relay so that the bed lights would come on with either the door or a separate switch. I don't know how successful that was.
