The wife and I rescued Appa about 2 years ago.20220730_123122.jpg
He had been living in an apartment in Ashland with a younger full-time student with 2 jobs and weighed over 65 lbs! Anne had said "NO more BEAGLES" many times since my Hercamer passed away. I think Appa's pitiful state and knowing he would have a better life with us made her want to rescue this clown.

Once we got him down to a reasonable 35 pounds, he was allowed on runs with me and Maximus. Since he is a Beagle after all and not to be trusted not to run off following his nose, I mounted a 16 ft retractable leash on the front box of the Kodiak.

    20210516_133905.jpg

Running with the Quad has become his favorite activity. He loves it so much, that I don't use the leash once we are on the mountain!

    20220205_141902.jpg

Well, despite his amazingly un-beagle like ability not to run off for days at a time, (only hours) his beagle tendancies of hating to have his feet touched, being a terrible food thief, escaping the yard at every opportunity and what we believe is from apartment living, shitting on the sidewalk and porch have NOT endeared him to the wife. His inability to follow her commands makes her like him even less.
He REALLY HATES HIS FEET TOUCHED! Even though he will shake for a treat, he needs to be muzzled to clip his nails.
A few weeks ago Appa began limping after a ride, one of his back feet appeared to hurt. When Anne tried to get a better look at his paw he bit her! Didn't break the skin but left a bruise! This was the third time he put teeth on Anne and his time with our family is about to end.
I want to find a home for him that he will enjoy as much as he has with us.
Last time I went up the mountain with the Tacoma he went along and was happy to run in front of the truck as well.

So if anyone on here has a place in their home for a beagle and would take him on runs out in nature, a nine year old citified beagle turned country could be in your future.

There is a screening process. He must go to a home with a fenced yard and ready access to trails.

Comes with his supplies (special food bowl, bark collar, bed, dogloo dog house if needed). He is up on his shots and healthy. There is no re-homing fee for Appa.

    Any Takers?

I don't think he had ever heard a gunshot before he was with us! He was scared of them at first, but after about 200 founds of .22 and a bunch of dog treats he has come around nicely. He'll hang out when I shoot .22 now!

Unfortunate circumstances, I’m hoping you find a good home for him. Beagles are the best.

They really are a fun, but not for everyone!
I'm hoping that the enormity of TacomaWorld will increase our chances of finding him a good new home to live out his remaining years.

I have had resounding NOs when posing this thread title to folks around here I have asked. One person was interested, but had to clear it with his roommate and never texted back after sending him pictures.

    Is he house trained?
    Is he crate trained?
    What became of the limp?
Where is ‘the state of Jefferson’?
Does he get along with other dogs?

    He is house trained.
    He is not crate trained.
Limp is gone. Think it was just sore as he ran to the top of the mountain that day.
We live outside of Merlin Oregon, near Grants Pass.
He gets along GREAT with other dogs! He thinks they are all his friends!

Wife says we don't know if he's crate trained. Just sleeps in a dog bed in our bedroom. He does NOT have accidents in the house.

He WILL steal food though! Appa downed a loaf and a half of bread in about 2 minutes once! Wife was NOT happy!

He looks like a cool dog. We, sadly, are waiting for our 14-yr old mixed terrier to pass. We are convinced this will be her last xmas with us. Our 13-yr old dachshund will need a buddy. Hope he finds a good home.

    That is SO tough!

One of the hardest things I ever did was have Hercamer put down. It was time though, he was riddled with cancer and I didn't want him to suffer too much.

    herc.jpgHercamer (R.I.P.)
I had both his parents, Trip and Angel.

    2-26-07 photo compilation 012.jpgTrip Lexington (R.I.P.)
When they had a litter I found homes for all the pups and Hercamer cried so much the people returned him! Glad they did as he was a GREAT dog! Wife was jealous of him! She admits it!

Our Mocha is diabetic and requires two insulin shots a day. She is also 90% blind and has a bad hip. She can no longer walk up the stair to sleep in our bedroom. Yet, she still enjoys her walks in the neighborhood and can track me down as soon as I open the can to her favorite snack - peanuts.

Appa would make a great buddy for your dachshund. He plays great with our chihuahua pug mix!
Hit me up when the time comes, he might still be here!

Yeah. I held out until Herc wasn't enjoying Daily life. He never stopped loving quad rides or walks in the parks though! He did both the day he took his last trip to the vet.

I would love to take him, and even discussed it with my wife. But timing is bad for us right now. He would have been a great yard mate for Ollie.Screenshot_20221217_082838_Photos.jpg

Well it seems Max knows Appa's days are numbered. He got into 2 fights with Appa yesterday!
No serious injuries, but Appa took a little damage to his back leg and was limping again, but seems to be back to normal today.
