Pushing fresh snow all day, saw zero other humans. At 7800' snow drifts were so deep we had to reverse rudder. If we'd only had a snorkel.

We should connect sometime when you are in the area - this is not too far from me. We could have cemint twins on the trail

Not so much in the way of off-roading, but did some camping in Gordon Gulch just outside of Nederland, CO on Friday night. First night in the RTT. Had 30mph sustained winds, with gusts up to 45mph. Combine that with having a bear in our camp overnight, we didn't get much sleep.IMG_0030.HEIC.jpg IMG_0032.HEIC.jpg

Took the Taco to Joshua Tree with a couple buddies! Was supposed to be Big Sur but we made a last minute change due to the rain that was expected over the weekend. Still enjoyed every second of it!

Some place in PA. By Coon Mountain? I forget. Was really cool. Was warned of some sketchy slopes to avoid by park police.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Out in the snow today. Saw 2 whitetail deer, and so many moose tracks but none sighted.

Could only get up 8 miles, then the road narrowed to a single 7 foot wide track with 3 foot deep snow on either side. A nice place to start shovelling out if you enjoy that.

These pics taken a mile from that spot. Had a bitch of a time turning around at the deeper spot, but I used MTS Mud and Sand which has helped me a few times now get out of deeper snow. If I were fully stuck I would have tried crawl control before starting to shovel.

Yeesh, we are supposed to get 14 inches of snow on Sunday. Driving my wife to work 50 miles the next day will not be fun.

Up in the mountains there are no other drivers to worry about, but that much snow for city driving sucks.

Nothing new, same every winter but man a lot of dodging drivers. At every stop I leave 2 car lengths between me and the guy in front.

So I can pull forward when the dope behind me can’t stop. Have needed to do that several times here.

    Enough for now
In Zion national park through the weekend. Went through the park yesterday and today, went to the dragons belly cave which had a 1/4 mile offroad trail to get to so it counts! Saw bison, wild turkeys, some sweet Great Pyrenees farm dogs, and a ton of mule deer.

Try that in addition to -30 and you wouldn't be getting out to take pics.

You’re talking to the wrong guy, done that many times. It will be -27 when I drive my wife to work tomorrow morning.

When I lived and worked in Calgary in the early 80s, and working outdoors as a carpenter in winter, it would get down to -35.

We had our trucks plugged into block heaters and they still would not start.

So at -30, off we would go walking over a mile to the pub at night. A lot of drugs and booze helping with that decision. Get to the pub, which was the Crowchild Trail Inn, and have to wait outside another 20 minutes as it was packed inside. All for the privilidge of drinking expensive beer, and playing pool. Your face would thaw out maybe 2 hours later, I am sure the ladies were plenty attracted to the snot flowing down our faces that we could not feel and did not know it was there.

We had 3 outdoor rinks near my home and would a few times per week go play ice hockey after freezing all day at work. The rinks were amazing, full boards, nets and lights and guys with pump trucks would regularly glaze them over to keep them smooth. So much fun. Lots of beer fueling those games, keep it from freezing inside the truck.

Hunted for many years with my father in BC frequently at -20 and walking up to 10 miles per day in deep snow. No ATV or snowmobile or roadside hunting. Take the truck and camper and go for 1-2 week trips and walk that distannce every day. Some trips we brought our cross country skis. I’m a Finn, and we like the cold. Our tradition is get in the sauna, drill a hole in the ice and jump in naked from the sauna. We used to do that at Canim lake from the Finnish Fish and Game Club cabin we used to maintain there. Ice fishing all day long.

Hey, Alberta is known for winter outdoor parties. At least in Calgary it was back in those days. Those temps and get a fire going and up to a hundred people outside drinking out in the bush, and all the truck engines left running. Crazy days.

A lot of good times in the cold.

Yup. Can relate to almost all of that.
Born and lived in Calgary 70 + years.
Snowing and - 32 this week.
Taco plugged in and no problem starting.
They'll always start with a good battery and a working block heater.

Not the old trucks we drove. A hard time getting them started back then even with block heaters. If one guy could get his started, he would pick up the rest of us to get to work.

Christ, one of those winters I tore my ankle ligaments bad out playing hockey, and my ankle in a cast for 3 weeks.

I did not miss a day of work. Off to work on crutches, and hopping around the job site with tool belt, skil saw and chainsaw. Daytime highs at that time were -20, so not too bad. I had little money and not WCB related so I had to keep working to pay my bills.

The job superintendant was a longtime close family friend, so he let me do that but at great risk to his company if WCB has found out I was doing that. A WCB inspector showed up one time to inspect the site, and guys let me know and I just scooted into the outhouse until the guy left.
