Still 40 below today... need to go get drinking water, always fun at -40 lol.
Not sure what to say about the kid shooting...have u tried some snap caps? And i agree with the pile of 22 and paper targets.
Ahh superstition...i think ive always been superstitious to a degree...hard to admit but suffer from ocd too. Im constantly checking things, usually to the 3rd degree. Not sure why 3 is the magic number for me lol.. someone mentioned the machines..not messing with perfectly work carbs and such, 100% on that.
A little story on supernatural superstitions..we bought this property and old cabin. The couple that owned it lived a long time. "Jerry" the old man was 94 when he left. Jerry enjoyed some whiskey and a pipe. One night wife and i were having a smoke on the porch and we both smelled pipe tobacco..we looked at each other in confusion..at this point i could swear there was someone nearby, i started marching around the cabin...there was noone to be seen, no tracks in the snow. I tried to tell myself the smell was just residual from him being here so long..yet there was no trace of a smell otherwise. Not long after the first incident i was in the basement sorting through the piles of stuff left behind..something came over me, i felt like someone was behind me. I looked and nothing was there but i immediately smelled pipe tobacco. Call me crazy but i stood up and apologized for going through his stuff and left the basement. These incidents still happen to this day...out in the garden well house, the shop and even in the woods...now i just greet him and go about my day. We dont think Jerry ever left...when we took possession of the estate, we got his whole life...his dog, his cat and most of his belongings...i even still have his truck.

I would not have believed it but when my mom and dad were trying to sell their house in Vermont they didn’t even have any offers. After a month my mother got one and buried one in front of the house. I kinda laughed but they had an offer the next day!

    funny you say this.

Back around 97 or 98 i was out on flightline Mt home AFB, by one of the jets. It was midshift only me and maybe 2 other people there. There was zero wind and absolutely zero smoking cigarettes or cigars by the plane. I walk towards building but basically away from the jet maybe 30' . There in a 5' circle area i could smell those Switzher (sp?) sweets cigars. Walk out of the circle and smell was gone. Confirmed it wasnt just me as a buddy smelled it too, same 5' area! Prob 3-5 min the smell lasted. One weirdest things...

Is he closing his eye? Maybe load that 22 bolt action with a spent casing and don’t tell him, then watch his eye. Just don’t get shot. Please.

I have developed a "process" for every potential dangerous action I take in my shop. I know that is the engineering nerd in me but it works. For example the table saw, which, with no guard, is sometimes an accident waiting to happen.
    1. No trip hazards around
    2. No distractions like a dog or music or anything
    3. All settings done with saw off.
    4. Push sticks on anything that can be shot backward
    5. Feed rollers set to proper height.
    6. No loose clothing
    7. Glasses
    8. Work stacked ready to go.
    9. E stop un obstructed.
10 Feed at the rate saw will cut. No forcing
    11. Feed hand has good grip.

Sounds like a lot but I have done it so many times it is automatic and I go thru each step with no shortcuts. Takes no time to do it the same way every time.

    Sounds like a lot

How many times have you "been there" even though you are in a totally new place? Sometimes I feel strongly that I have been somewhere where I have never been before? The smell thing happens sometimes too.

No ear plugs? It's the 1st thing I do when starting my safety routine.

Second thing is sweeping the floor...even I swept it the day before. I can't touch a tool until then.

Sometimes they say in say a big rifle, have friend load one empty or fired casing randomly, in the series of shots, dont tell the person shooting which one it is. Then watch them shoot. Usually you will see someones mistake shooting. Pulling trigger, flinching, anticipating recoil jerking the rifle etc... if that makes sense

I get the "been there" thing quite a bit...but sometimes its not a place, its an action....like deja vu. Happens a lot walking the river for a fishing spot....ill go places i know i havnt been but upon casting out, its like ive fished there on the regular.

I agree with the ear plugs...but its too late for me. At 43 im about half def in my left ear and now probly about the same in my right. In my early days i worked in the granite industry running a polisher all day...not to mention dirtbikes, uncapped racecars and all the other loud shit i was exposed too....never liked ear muffs at the monster truck shows.

That historic house we toured the other day, the guide said the saying "sleep tight, dont let the bedbugs bite" the first part refers to how the bedding was supported by ropes woven and that the person sleeping would take a large wooden fork and wind/tighten the ropes each night. I had never seen that before.

I'm quite superstitious and mildly OCD on some things, so there are some times I hate myself

But to keep on with some of the stuff yous guys have been saying, I swear the little ol' lady who owned my house before me is haunting the house some times. She had bran cancer and passed last September and I bought the house January of this year. She was a big smoker and occasionally I'll smell cigarette smoke even though I know it wasn't mother. It's a like a really strong one, like a Winston 100 or something the like. Other times there will be random cool or warm spots, or what feels like wind passing you by. There will also just be some time I feel like I'm being watched. Kinda creepy. I just say out loud "I know you're there Catherine!"

I agree that change is good sometimes.

However in manufacturing the urge to change often comes from poorly thought out cost cutting measures suggested (forced) by office dwellers rather than people in touch with the day to day operations. :annoyed:

Believe it or not at my age my hearing is pretty exceptional. I have never worn ear protection. Hearing test last year was great. Do I need to? Probably. After 60 years my ears and eyes are still good. Knees? Not so much lol.
