Unfortunately, the paper clip no longer works on a 2020 Tacoma, since Toyota has removed the cable from September 2019. But maybe that's the same as when I relearn the keys with Techstream

with a new ECM everything worked immediately. It just doesn't work with a 2016 ECM in a 2020 Tacoma

    Great to hear.

Yeah. There are some reported differences between 2016 / 2017 and 2018 / 2019 and 2020+ ECUs. For sure, the 2016 / 2017 ECU have 1.5mb of memory versus 2.0mb for the rest.

This is the ECU handshake on a 2020+ Tacoma. After the 30 minutes, simply switch the test to OFF and, after changing the ignition, start the vehicle and let it run for 15 minutes

Just to confirm, can the pin jump trick be used on a 2016 Tacoma when replacing the ecm?
