I just replaced my worn tires and went from 265 to 285's. I had to remove the front wheel hub spacers since it rubbed real bad. I took my Tacoma to 4 Wheel Parts to have a cab mount chop done + alignment ($450), i specifically asked them if that would solve the rubbing issue with my hub spacers on, in which they told me yes it would, after the job was done. It still rubbed on the body in certain circumstances like full on a full turn. I contacted 4WP and they said it was due to the wheel hub spacers so I took it in for them to take a look, later they told me it was because my front king shocks were set too low and that they had to raise it to avoid the rubbing. They were going to charge me $200 and said it was normally $400 to adjust the coilover height. I agreed to have it done and now I'm worried that the upper control arm ball might be overstressed (see attached images), I dont think they even adjusted the alignment if thats even necessary. Is this ok? Should I be worried? Thanks for your help.

I mean it looks like it's at full droop or close to it. Not good for anything- ride, offroad performance, handling, ball joints, tie rods, steering rack etc.
An easy way to check is to measure from the Uniball bolt straight up to the inner fender at ride height, or tire to fender flare, then jack up the front of the truck until the tires are trying to come off the ground and compare measurements before and after. If theres not at least 2 or 3" of droop available then its going to ride and perform terrible and will be your sign that it's lifted too high.

Simply lifting the truck 2, 3, or more inches does not eliminate rubbing in any form, just moves the clearance a bit at ride height but under bump conditions while offroad, and especially flexed out, the rubbing will be the same since the max compressed and extended range is the same.
The root cause needs to be addressed- whether too negative of wheel offset (or running spacers) causing too much steering scrub radius, or just trim as needed. Another thing that can help a lot is a custom alignment. Maxing out the caster essentially pushes the tires forward in the wheel wells which usually helps to cure rubbing around the cab mount and firewall

Cranking up the suspension will only solve rubbing while parked at the mall and turning the wheels. As soon as you actually drive on or off road and use the travel in the suspension, the tire will rub again. Sounds like 4WP took you for a ride.

$200 - $400 to adjust coilovers....damn. I can adjust the Kings on my Tacoma with them still on the truck using the punch tool they came with in 20 min. Thats crazy. How much more lift did they give you, might want to make sure you're CV angles aren't too steep now or you'll be blowing through CV boots.

It looks like the uniballs on the UCA are almost maxed out just sitting there parked…

You're all drooped out.....which will make for a thrilling ride.

If 4wp did the alignment, did they give you the specs? You have done a lot of what you can to not have 33's rub, but this is me researching this, since I am a minimal lift running 31's kind of guy to not deal with this stuff, they should have given you as much caster as possible to get the tires off the cab mount (what is left of it).

TIL that 4WP has no idea what they are talking about. Glad I do not frequent them.

And $400 to simply adjust your coilovers? Jesus.

just take it to an independent shop or have someone do it off if tacoma world or fb or ig, cheaper and better work.

I've dealt with 4WP three times, that was two too many. I'll just go ahead and punch myself in the sack next time and save them the effort.

first mistake was going to 4WP but def go somewhere else and have them adjust your caster. Aftermarket UCAs most of them at least pull the wheel closer to the wheel well. If you get your caster around 2.5-3 you likely will not have issues or as much. Remove any fender liners, mudflaps and flatten the pinch weld and you should be good.

I also wonder if they tightened all that up while it was hanging on the lift or were nice enough to put on all 4's to finalize everything. That sucker is maxed out for her. Way too much pre load OP. Half that if not more for a normal ride.

Essentially, all of or almost all of your droop has been removed. It's a byproduct of lifting our IFS system. Spring rate is the same through out the compression of the spring, the ride will suffer if the shock gets maxed out which is common with high preload. Also, not great for the shocks. By removing some preload, say maybe 5 full turns you will add the droop back and level the arms more, they won't be completely level but better. The uniball will look better as well, it will have more room in the arm before it contacts the edge.

For your rubbing issue, you have to start cutting and grinding. No way around it, everyone's truck is different.

Also waiting for a picture of the CMC job please, would love to see what they did.

What cracks me up is all these people whom want to run 285's and think they will fit, without rubbing. 90% rub they bitch about it. They been on here, see others have problems (90%) time. But they go ahead and try to move to them as well. Bitch and complain that they don't fit without rubbing.
