I am considering selling my 2016 TRDOR which included the factory Tonneau cover. I looked at a 2023 today and the black plastic trim pieces covering the side rails is covering up the threaded bosses (that receive the attaching bolts) if they are underneath. There are 2 threaded bosses visible on the top rail under the rear window. My 2016 has the threaded bosses on the side rails. The installation of the factory tri-fold hard Tonneau cover involved cutting out rectangular access slots from the plastic top rail cover in order to access the threaded bosses. Additionally there are trim pieces that hide the bolts. If I sell my 2016 without the Tonneau cover I want to know IF the threaded bosses are underneath on the 2023. I watched a Utube of a guy that removed the black plastic trim pieces by just pulling up and removing them. Amazingly they did not break off. Does anyone know if the threaded bosses are under there? The dealer said their new Tonneau cover is $1500 and it doesn’t look as good as the one I got in 2016 for $450. My cover has rubber seals on top of the rail and does a great job of keeping water out and giving privacy discouraging theft. I posted a picture of the top rail from that Utube showing the threaded bolt holes. The Utube said it covered 2016 thru 2022. I’m assuming the 2023 is the same but since the dealer didn’t show my style available it makes me think they may not be there. Thanks in advance.

The box is the same design from 2016-2023, so it should fit. But not certain if Toyota added any pieces that would hinder the fit/finish/water proofing/etc.

$1500 for a new one is pricey. Personally I would keep the one from your 2016 (won’t really de-value the truck), try to fit it on the 2023. If it doesn’t fit, sell to someone on here for a few hundred bucks, buy an aftermarket cover.

That is my plan. I really am apprehensive about pulling up on the black plastic rail trim pieces. Seems like the perpendicular plastic fingers that go down in the holes in top rail, would break off? The Utube guy just kept pulling and they unzipped, none broke? Hate doing that on brand new truck. If it works I could just put the pieces off my 2016 on the 2023, since they have already been cut out. Then install the new uncut trim pieces on the 2016 to hide the holes since not used.

If the OEM cover is from 2016, I would seriously consider just selling it and buying something new. I have never had an OEM cover, but from I have read, the water resistance seems to fall hard after a few years.

Sell it for a few bucks, then buy a Lomax or Bakflip or something.

    I’ll check them out.
