Good question. I have a new 3.5 and am not sure what I’ll do yet. Old school says 1K but that’s when normal was 5K and today they say 10K. I was personally thinking either 5K or 6 months, whichever comes first, but will watch this thread for opinions.

If brand new and very first oil change, I would change by 1K, then the second one, and subsequent changes, by the recommended interval in your manual.

This question is asked multiple times a day.

Toyota recommends 10k mile intervals. Some people insist on 5k intervals. Others stick to 10k. Others change it at 1k, then 5k, then …

What do low mileage people do? I work from home so I just now hit 1K after nearly 3 months. I’ve heard to change it at 6 months if you haven’t reached the mileage suggestion yet. What do y’all think?

2k miles after 6 months might be called overkill, but I don’t think it’s a bad idea for peace of mind. Then you can do once a year at the pace you drive.

I plan to get it done at least as often as allowed with the 2 year maintenance that came with the truck. I’ll either do 6 months or annually after that unless I start driving more.

2 year/25k mile maintenance comes with 2 oil changes. The other 3 services are just tire rotation/inspection.

Some dealers don’t like doing the oil change at the 5k mile service from what I’ve read. I didn’t have any issues, just asked nicely and agreed to utilize my 10k service at 5k miles.

I keep it simple and do it at 6 month intervals as I’m pretty low mileage too. I have a Lexus in addition to the truck so I’ve only averaged 7500 a year since I bought it early 19.

I just get it up on the jacks every 6 mo and rotate the tires and do an oil change. It only takes an hour and $6 for an OEM filter and $30 or so for 6 qts of M1 every 6 months is cheap insurance.

Same, do my oil changes in November and May every year regardless of mileage.
