Honesty story from the barber this week:

A customer from out of town (30 miles) was visiting his sister and stopped for a haircut, they got gabbing and he left without paying. The barber is a good guy and not concerned.

The customer got home that evening and realized what had happened, called his sister who was waiting for the barber the next morning and paid him.

A day later the barber gets a card in the mail apologizing with the money again...
He sent it back.

 

Couple weeks ago a Hispanic guy got a scratch off, only reason I say that is because his English wasn't good. He went out, came back in and when I scanned it he won $150, he ask for a different $20 ticket and the money. I gave him the cash and ticket and he walked out. He came back in with the money and said why you give me too much? I said no, you won $150, he said really????

I hate to say it but most people wouldn't have came back in.

I have given cashiers (who can't count) money back or told them a price is wrong (in the stores favor) many times over the years.

It is my belief that we are held accountable for our actions in the end.
When my judgement day comes I may well be called a dumb@$$ - but I won't be called dishonest.

Can't speak for anyone else but I run pizza cutters. Currently the 235/85 flavor but I've run 255/85's in the past.

Most of the time I take the shopping carts back to their designated areas. But if I don't care for the store or the people working there then the carts go strait to the nearest flower bed!

 

Exhibit 1:
Back in the heyday of predatory lending practices (early 2000s) Countrywide Mortgage (now defunct) tacked on a HELOC we didn’t notice when signing. We tried to close it and they said it would cost $500. We went back through the paperwork and found that $500 fee if you closed it within 5 years.

5 years and one day after we signed the paperwork. I called to close the HELOC. First guy, that’s gonna cost $500. Nope, lemme talk to your manager. Manager, that’ll cost $500. Nope, read the paperwork- I gave him the document title, page number and section. A minute later, ‘well, we typically keep these open as a courtesy to our customers’. Nope, close it now, send me the paperwork it’s closed within a month or we’ll start calling the regulatory agencies and my congressman.

We got the paperwork a couple of weeks later BUT, a few years later, after Countrywide went bankrupt, we noticed a ding on our credit report for a late payment on that HELOC. It took me a couple of hours to clear this up with the 3 reporting companies. It’s easy to prove you were never late on a payment if you never drew from a HELOC. Yes, those guys can see the monthly balance.

Predatory for sure. We would have pursued it if they were still in business..

Lessons learned:

1. Keep and know where to find essential paperwork;
2. Know everything you’re signing - never trust a ‘neutral’ closing agent;
3. Check your credit score annually.

Exhibit 2:
Same property about 20 years later, we need to find our title insurance paperwork to help dispute a ROW claimed by my neighbor and ‘certified’ by a surveyor who’s either incompetent, lazy or a crook. Outcome is still pending.

Lesson reinforced:

1. ALWAYS buy the buyers title insurance Keep it and all attachments in a location where you can find it. It’s effective for as long as you own the property.

 

I always park by the shopping cart corral otherwise I could wonder for hours till I remember what I drove.

If I can grab a shopping cart left in the parking lot I will.

 

Back over here looking at these big boys. The 2 Alcos are propulsion only, both running simultaneously. The 2 Cummins' ran independently run the Crawlers lights, steering system, leveling system...got the grand tour this am.

 

I once handed in a $20 bill to the service desk that I found on the floor in Wal-Mart. It was folded neatly so obviously it mattered to someone. Sometimes I have fun paying the toll of the next person at the toll booth but with the popularity of the EZ Pass that is not so easy to do any longer.

 

Valid points. I would put these two examples in the category of major purchases and atypical financial transactions that you should ABSOLUTELY keep paper work on. Mortgages, car loans, etc. I even keep stuff on major purchases that have longer warranties, (heat pumps, stoves, frig, chain saws, etc.). But the typical stuff like pay stubs, bank statements, etc. I take a picture of those or keep them for awhile then shred them.

More because I'm a cheap prick.

Tall, skinnies last longer than the boggers. Plus I don't want to hear them when driving with windows down.

 

Funny thing to watch is when theres zero carts inside. People stand around meanwhile they just walked passed a cart corral in the parking lot full of carts...

While its an inconvenience i just go back outside and grab a few. Yesterday at Kroger, i counted about 3 people waiting inside for carts all of them looked.

 

As more of long Island and North Jersey move here people get stranger all the time.

I was told once by a women in a high end Suv that it is terrible the store is unable to have shopping carts in the proper place .

While I watched her walk past at least 20.

 

I see they're infiltrating your area too. Well, actually we get more people from Baltimore and DC then anything. I'm not gonna get into that whole mess
