I've got a 2011 sr5 and I am curious if you can turn of the LSD in 4hi or 4lo?

If you have a VSC button, you might be able too.

While in 4Hi, stop the truck and hold the VSC button in for 3+ seconds.

I know you can do this on TW off-road tucks. But not sure in the SR.

I thought the auto lsd (and all other traction control aids) turned off when in 4lo.

If I had those features I’d confirm it.

My truck has ABS. That’s it. Nothing else.
    Open diff until locked.

Unless there is some system out there that I'm unaware of limited slip can't be turned off and on like traction control and a locking diff. Not really any need to. In my experience limited slip is of limited usefulness. I'd choose a true locking diff for off road use every time. Traction control is actually pretty close to what limited slip does, but it does it better when on pavement or in light snow or mud.

There is, the '09+ 2nd gens have a 'software' limited slip. It uses the ABS sensors to determine which wheel(s) is/are spinning, and the ABS pump to apply the brakes to it/them. So... kinda sorta like having a Torsen-type gear limited slip, if you have a wheel in the air, where you'd have to apply the brakes some to stop the free-spinning wheel, even though you want to go, not stop.

the Germans putting this in street cars since ~1999 with no off road purpose simply call this electronic stability control. No LSD about it

you don’t have an LSD. LSD in 2nd gen was 05-08 indicated by red LSD sticker on the rear diff requiring LSD gear oil

You will have the auto-lsd (brake simulated) ability

    This thread explains it all

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/traction-controls-2009-2015.310726/

There are ways to get brake actuated traction aids in 4lo on non TRD OR trucks via the "yellow wire mod"
