New member here. Just recently bought my first tacoma (2022 TRD OR Super White). Looking to get some bed security and storage for trips. Found a Diamondback HD with one drawer and a Leer 180 color matching with roof top bars. Both in perfect shape, both $1400. Which would you go with?

It's kind of comparing apples to oranges. Two different things with two different purposes. That said, a color matched Leer 180 for $1400 is a significant discount over new and without a wait time. All depends on what shape it's in. A brand new Diamondback HD is $2299.

Had diamondback and it was nice. My brother actually has it on his truck now. Easy to take on and off if I needed the whole bed. And kept my stuff dry. But I needed some more storage space so I switched to a decked drawer system and a RLD design camper shell. Can’t really go wrong with either option though. Personally I’d go with the diamond back over a fiberglass camper shell just for ease of removal in that rare instance.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
A bit biased here - I'd go with the Leer 180.
Check the weather-stripping along the bottom edge of the door - the factory adhesive sucks.

I needed a topper/shell for taller stuff, the shallow box under a tri-fold left very little room, I couldn’t get 40-60 quart hunting coolers under the cover without removing bed mat and rubber feet on cooler, and still had to space it correctly so top wasn’t bent over cooler.
That said- everyone’s needs are different, asses what you’re trying to store. I’d guess the DB cover has a little more room, as it appears to sit on top of bed rails and not in, like the tri-fold.

I'm going to be doing some hunting and an occasional camping trip. I know the Leer is a better deal pricewise but I was curious if anyone had one and regretted not having the other instead due to shortcomings.

I’d think you’re going to have a tough time fitting gear under the cover, but again, don’t know what you have. Look for the tallest thing you have (like coolers) and start measuring.

If you are solo and/or have a significant other, then dB. If you have family, I'd go leer

    VERY GOOD POINT @sbx22 !!

With a family of 4, I would most defiantly go with a shell or camper style topper!
I couldn't make a tri-fold work with my range and hunting gear, or not very well, and I am almost always solo.

I love my Diamondback. I went with the SE ... plenty strong as I can walk it and strap stuff to it. I added the Crossbin 8 (allows items to still slide under it, and easy access for stuff). I also recently added the Front Runner racks for an occasional roof top tent. The covers are also easy enough to remove as needed (one or both), and solid, secure storage. Looks great too!

I understand the reason for a cap, but I'm not a fan of the look or crawling in (as I've had one on another pickup).

I’d go with the Leer. You’re looking to enclose the bed, might as well maximize that space cause there ain’t much.
You can add a bed platform and have storage underneath. There are also ways to install hooks to hang things or even make shelves. And you would have roof rack capabilities, put cargo carries up there.

Sounds like you need the Leer.
But man, those DBs are nice!
    Tough call...

Did you have to remove the stainless tie downs when installing your crossbin?

This is the model (SE) I would buy...I believe it's about $1700, the last time I checked.

OP, sounds like you need a Leer.

No, the bin just drops in ... nothing required to remove. I'll note, the "8" still allows items to slide under it, which is what I'd recommend for that reason over their deeper bin.

do you have the silver strap tie downs on each side of your bed close to your cab? It block the bin from sliding forward allowing the pins to go throw the opening into the rail. At least when I tried to install it this morning but I was in a hurry bc it was so cold. Just seemed it was preventing it from lining up

No, I didn't have to remove the silver tie downs. I have my crossbin 8 right against the front. As I recall, if the bin is a little further back (away from the front wall), the pins can't slide into the rails.

Oh wait ... I was looking at older pics of my 2019, and the silver tie downs are lower then yours? It does looks like you do need to remove them as I can see they are in the way. Weird?!
