Hello I’m replacing my rear suspension and found a weird wire coming off my old shocks. I did a little research but wasn’t able to find anything that looked like it. I don’t know what it’s for and I don’t know what it’s connected to. If anyone recognizes this please lmk what I need to do to disconnect it.

An early version of an air lift shock?

This, that is an air shock someone put on to increase load capacity or for towing to level the truck out. Probably a Gabriel Hyjacker. It should go to a Y and a line should run off it to a schrader valve or if the previous owner was pimpin, a small air pump. If so, you should find a switch inside and some wiring under the hood.

    Early Tacoma Air Shock!

Air shocks have been around for a very long time.

    Long before Air bags .

When I was in HS, first car was a muscle car - 67 Firebird (I had wanted a 67 Camaro but couldn't find one). Dude I bought it from had went with air shocks in the rear. Put the Schrader valve inside the fuel door next to the gas cap lol.

I found the wire in the engine looks like it’s connected to the battery tho.

Interesting ! Positive side of the battery?

When you removed the shock was it under any pressure ?

It is a wire not a nylon tube ?

No other fittings on the shock?

No strange switches or lights on the dash?

On board Air or a spot where the compressor was removed?
