Has anyone done an iPad mount in front of the shift knob?

We use our iPad for music and maps when off the grid. This position obstructs the qi charging area which we don't use, some switches which we seldom use, and coffee cup holders which we do use. But we could use the coffee cup holders behind the console storage area. This would solve the iPad mount problem we have yet to resolve. And then what to do with this space? Relocate the obstructed switches? Recessed 12V plug and and USB ports?

That's exactly what I did. As you said, you lose two cup holders and easy access to a few switches. That said, I am very happy with the use of the iPad as navigation. A lot of my travel is off-grid so I'll make maps of my proposed routes and then load those on the iPad along with necessary background maps. For what I do and where I go, accurate navigation is mission-critical. Since this photo was taken, the iPad has been tilted up a bit more.
