Just looking to see how many who regeared with 5.29 Nitro are getting a whine from 40 - 60mph.

Been about 10k miles and dont know if its worth removing and sending the rear to get looked at?

I had 4.88 nitro's done and the whine was quite loud on deceleration so i had them replaced under warranty. this time it was Yukon gears. the whine on decel was gone but now it howled at 55mph and 72 mph when feathering the pedal. i have since replaced the diff oil with lucas 85-140, installed the dynamic dampers from Toyota to the frame, and sound proofed the back of the cab. the whine is still there but at least it's quieter.
whining gears seems to be a common complaint with Tacoma's, even on stock gears. I'm sure your gears are fine, just a little annoying.

I don’t think it has anything to do with the ratio or number, it’s about the setup and properly setting up a rear end is a skill.

Try 85W140 if you aren't already running it. It helps quiet things down a bit with aftermarket gears. I've had several sets of Yukon/Nitro in different rigs and they always make a little noise

I will be doing 5.29's soon and talked to ECGS and the recommended me the yukon gears as they have found that set up to be the quietest and set up the best (their words) on the 3rg gen (I had 5.29 yukons on my 04 taco and they were quiet)

Not for certain but just commenting on what ECGS said

Ill keep driving it and see if it gets louder, my 3rd gen 4runner had done by ECGS with yukons and they are quiet.
