    Hmmm...

Background is a big factor in Trap.
It's the reason why some ranges typically see higher scores than others.
That difference is one of the things that makes Trap so interesting.

A range with a relatively close wooded background can be deceptive.
Even worse (sometimes) is when the bird crosses from wooded, busy background to clear sky just as you shoot.
But Uncle Gritto (I hear you saying), just wait for the bird to emerge to clear sky.
    No.
    No no no.
You try that and you destroy the timing you've spent thousands of shells in practice trying to get down.

    Or consider the reverse.
The bird crosses to clear sky before you can shoot anyway.
    No problem then, right?
    No.
You gotta see the damned thing and start moving your gun and... sudden transition just before you shoot.
    Which can be disconcerting.

Experience in shooting against different, varied backgrounds is the only answer, but the problem remains.
    It's always a factor.

What kind of background will that indoor facility have?
(Surely not what I see in that picture, that would be a nightmare.)
If it's optimized to be uniform and provide high contrast...
Well, look for scores to be higher and for Trap to become more a matter of mechanical repetition.

We won't even talk about lack of winds, which are always tricky.

The background is definitely consistent. The lights help the orange color pop.

Surprisingly the kids who shot there and then came and then competed in the outdoors did pretty well actually!

I'm actually not affected much by wind. I've actually had consistently good scores on windy days :anonymous:

    :annoyed:

Hope the power comes back on soon :fingerscrossed:

Power is also out at Blue Ridge Summit.
Supposedly from downed trees due to the high winds today.

It's so cold that my pellet stove can't maintain 70 degrees in the house, so the backup propane furnace has been running some.
Just an hour ago, the wind blew out the pilot light.
    Had to relight it.

I just got out the little 2000 watt inverter generator from under the steps.
Ready to put outside the back door and start up quickly if needed.
I also started up the big one last week, just to be sure it was ready to go, but it's loud AF.

The little one has enough grunt to run the pellet stove and propane furnace blowers at the same time.
Or pellet stove and coal burner insert.
I figure in the morning I'll be burning some coal.

    Be Prepared.

    Right, @Squirt ?

You'll sing a different tune once you get humbled a few times by tricky winds.
At my Club's range, you'll see strong updrafts and downdrafts that are entirely unpredictable.

Oh I know but I've shot in some pretty good winds and never did too shabby.:notsure:
Now that I say that I'll do absolutely terrible the next time I shoot in winds
