Sorry for your loss OP, what happened is extremely rare, and the timing couldn’t be worst.

IDK why so many people are having issues with oil leaks and seepage, but IMO, I suspect that the lower maintenance recommendations may play a part.

I still change and recommend changing the oil after break-in, and at every 5k miles thereafter, air filter every
20k or annually whichever comes first and the forgotten PCV valve, which no one changes anymore. I've had no such issues, nada, on my '16 SR5 4X4.

A new motor replacement may run you up to some $6-10k, and it may just not be worth it. That said, if I was in your shoes, I’d probably consider a trade in for a heavier duty truck suck as a F-150 5.0 N/A or Ram 1500.

Best of luck in whatever you do.

    Cheers

You may want to call/contact Toyota to see if they will allow a goodwill repair considering how close you are to the warranty term.

I would absolutely make sure you have them show you in person what issues they found before they try and sell you a new engine.

A new engine in this truck is 30k installed … Toyota is doing major tomfoolery with the part prices on it

I commented earlier but as a lot of others commented I would want to see the metal. I must say I’ve lost all faith in dealer.

30k for a new engine. Just buy a new truck. What are the odds they tossed all of the pieces with the used oil?

Let's all wait and see. Dealer said large piece, I question that. Lage piece can't make it to filter. Pretty big assumption, that it needs a motor.

I wouldn't even waste my time, that sucker would be at the dealership working on a trade while it was still running.

this, let's see what the heck is in the oil and where it came from.
I am sure the dealer will gladly take it off your hands for $1,000 on new one. I mean consider what's in for them, not saying they are lying, just not real motivated to do the hard work and find the actual problem.

Could be leaving a lot of money on the table that way. Say dealer offers you KBB wholesale minus their quoted cost of repair?

Go to a different dealer....They probably won't even start it before they give you an offer.

^If it was a more "hidden" issue, sure. The oil pressure light is on, though.

I would have it towed to a reputable independent shop and let them check it out.

30k is preposterous for an engine replacement. I’d run it off a cliff before I took that in the rear.

This dealer has been pretty straight with me. Told me about the timing cover leak and had it repaired under warranty, got a wheel bearing replaced under warranty, some issue with the fuel lines was repaired free, issue with my power steering, and one other thing that was minor as well that i cant remember... all pointed out during oil changes and got repaired. Maybe just a good shop manager?

Lol come to think of it i had a lot of issues with the truck.

You used it as a tow vehicle. 10k isn't the correct oil change interval

If it’s paid for. I’d have zero issue putting 10k into the repair. 10k repair or 40k for a new truck and 5-6yrs of payments, easy decision for me.

Did you point these issues out, or did they tell you the truck had issues.?

The timing cover leak and the fuel lines they told me. Other issue took the truck in for but no issues fixing it under warranty.

If the engine is toast then I'd consider a junkyard for replacement, $4000-$6000 seems to be the range.
