I put so much time into this bike. Every socket head bolt was hand painted black and the outer rim was color matched with the blue. Every spoke nipple was painted and then clear coated.

 

Nice. I was thinking that,

 

@Squirt will settle up on those small details.

I'm sure you have an idea how I did it.
The thin strips were first glued to adjacent solid pieces and clamped.
Then carefully cut the angles for each... hmmm... module, taking care that the lengths are precise.
(Little errors stack up).
Then glue up the whole thing in a jig made for the purpose and clamp.
Sanding out the glue lines was a bitch, but they wouldn't stand going through a planer.

Yep, i made this small basket weave cutting board

 

Very good.
So you know how I did it.
The difference is in the angles and the preliminary step of laminating the thin contrasting lines.

 

That shit is way more complex than anything I could even fathom.

I can do 45°, that's it

 

Yeah you have pecision angles! Square was bad enough. I basically had to fit each piece, from left to right

Well friends, I've had less than 50% of my regular sleep the last few nights, so I bid you all a good night and I will be sleeping in tomorrow. Tomorrow problems can wait till then.

 

The real problem with the angles was in gluing end grain pieces.
As you can well imagine.
If they weren't supported by adjacent strongly glued pieces, they'd never hold.

If you go back and look, some of those angles have visible glue lines, and it doesn't take much to be very visible.
But those 3 boards I have left are the least successful pieces.
I didn't feel they were good enough for gifts.
