So I come to you guys to get some details about a trip I’m planning for next year.

My friends and I do a fishing/camping trip every year and yesterday Flathead lake got bought up as a possibility since it’s on two of our bucket lists and only a 9hour drive.

Looking for info/details on camping and fishing on the lake.

If you don’t feel like giving away special info, my dm’s are open

    Thanks!

My buddies dad slayed whitefish in the lake as well as lk trout. He had a decent size boat, I know there's a state pk but not sure about camping there. I also believe but am not certain that some access is on reservation land.... there are smaller lakes north of whitefish you may have better fishing/ camping experience especially with the kayak.

I grew up near Flathead. I haven't lived there for about 20 years so I don't have much current info for you.
Camping - there are a few state parks around Flathead that have good camping. A few sites are right on the water. I think they all have boat ramps. There are areas in the Missions you can drive up and camp. Don't have any specifics for you. You might need a tribal permit for any dispersed camping.
Fishing - you'll want a boat for Flathead. It's big. We used to fish a lot over by big arm. Lots and lots of Lake Trout. They are introduced/invasive so they've wiped out a bunch of the other species. Pretty sure you still need a fishing permit from the tribe. There used to be a good tackle shop in town, but Walmart probably wiped that out.
Lake Mary Ronan is pretty cool. Used to be a lot of Kokanee in there. You could use the kayak there.
I've never been out on Whitefish Lake. The town is pretty over the top these days.
Hungry Horse is beautiful. It's close to Glacier. Not sure what fishing is like out there. Probably plenty of dispersed camping though.

Flathead can get 6' waves during sudden storms so watch the weather in a kayak, or stay close to shore.
