It’s covered 100% using my extended warranty. I drop it off on Tuesday. 18 hours of repair time. They told me the problem has also affected other models, not just Tacomas.

Just looked at mine and there's old oil there. Looks prehistoric and caked on so maybe it decided to fix itself.

Picked up Tacoma on 3rd day, $3200 billed to extended warranty company, all appears good with truck. Will see if I notice any problems over next few months.

I had the dreaded timing cover leak at 130,000. I lucked out. Since I had just barely come off the extended warranty they repaired it for me for $500 my cost at the dealership. Sadly I’m now at 156,000. And the timing cover is leaking again in the exact same spot, near the power steering pump. Very disappointing. I know dealership said they managed to reseal it without removing the engine. So my guess is I’m a victim of poor quality resealing work. I cleaned it all up, added dye, sure enough it’s leaking again. I’m monitoring for now. While I cannot afford to replace this truck any time soon and it’s my daily driver, it runs perfectly, I’m hoping this is just a slow leak that can be lived with. It’s not dripping on any belts or hoses. Actually blows back so not doing any damage. Slight smell. Who cares. And when I changed the oil it was just under the full mark, at 5000 miles oil change. So I may just live with it. They quoted between $3500 and $5000 to repair it again at the same dealership. When I said why is it leaking again I got the sometimes this happens. But $5000 buys a lot of oil that can drip out if it’s only leaking less than 1/8 quart per oil change. Any tips or tricks anyone had to seal this area from the outside would be helpful. I would never put stop leak in these engines! Just too many small ports and spaces.

Good call, change that MF while the engine is out. Even if it cost you $200.~ $300., just do it.

Just had my 95000 service done today. I was told there was a potential oil leak evidenced by "oil where it's not supposed to be." No idea why I didn't think to ask specifics about location. However, the dealer did suggest potential timing cover leak, which I got the impression he suggested because of how common it apparently is.

I did ask if it was possible that it was part of my rust proofing since I used a lanolin based product and it has been unseasonably warm since Christmas. He said oil is usually thinner, but it was possible. However, we'll have to double check it at the next service and go from there. Luckily I do have the platinum warranty so I would think that would cover it. Although they've found every excuse to tell me why something isn't covered in the past so I'm definitely skeptical.

be skeptical - I had a tech tell me all 4 of my shocks had blown because they were "covered in oil"..... it was my Krown undercoating

Well, I don't plan to apply any more before the next appointment so we'll see. Although, I do think I put it on before the last oil change as well. He did admit it was entirely possible the previous tech got some oil on something and didn't clean it up all the way. But, all the more reason to follow up rather than jump to conclusions yet.

Either way, if they want to do the job and it is covered, I'm all for it considering my platinum warranty expires in 15,000 miles.

Edited: Same “coolant bypass issue” on my 22’ ever since I had it. Every 4K it would empty the reservoir.

Your power steering (I assume) reservoir becoming empty has nothing to do with the timing cover leak problem. If you're losing a full reservoir capacity in 4k miles there is a major leak somewhere. Are you inner tie rod boots leaking fluid or filled with fluid? No matter the cause, on a '22 it should be a warranty fix, neglecting it will only cause other problems or make things worse.

Since you were able to clean it well, why not try to apply Toyota black silicone outside . Is it permatex ? There’s a thread here where it’s been a success no further leaks .

I had the timing cover leak on my 2022 only 2,500 miles into it. Hopefully I don’t have to have it fixed again! Lucky it was all warranty work!

There was a few decent size spots on my garage floor. About 2” in diameter.
