    I was kinda figuring it would have some sludge under the valve cover but for 185k miles it looks like it’s clean and well cared for

    Just randomly checked back in on this thread, and wanted to respond to the Valvoline blue restore suggestion. I tried that (see post #47 in this thread) with no success. I ended up having a shop rebuild my motor. I am seeing a little bit of oil consumption in the new motor after about 30K miles which has triggered my PTSD, haha.. been using Mobil one 5w-30 synthetic since day one with the rebuild. I’m keeping an eye on it and hopefully it stabilizes and doesn’t get worse.

    Oh man it was almost three years ago now, I can't remember all they did, but my mechanic pulled the motor and the shop took it apart and did things, haha. I remember they bored it out but I don't remember all of the parts they replaced. I looked at the receipt and its not super informative. It cost about $3200 plus $800 to remove and replace the motor. Probably pretty standard rebuild stuff. I wish I would have had them take some pictures of the pistons/rings, that would have been informative for all of us. The shop was good but they were pretty old school and weren't too receptive to special requests. I remember I asked about upgraded rings like others doing this rebuild due to oil consumption had used (hastings??) to hopefully avoid this issue coming back and the owner basically told me it was a waste of money and he wouldn't do it, hahaha. I am no master mechanic so I probably came off as a fool or something. It had a one year warranty, which was great because the timing chain assembly had an issue right before the warranty was up. The shop was not stoked haha. Luckily I am paranoid and listen to my engine obsessively so I noticed a subtle little noise and they took care of me. I took the opportunity to add the LCE header, and the motor runs really strong. I do notice the oil light lingers on for a half a second when I fire it up on cold mornings and it is using a little bit between oil changes. I think I'll start using some products mentioned by others (rislone, etc.) to reduce ring carbonizing going forward, that was an expensive fix.
