shock recommendations for non lifted

I have a 2020 Tacoma double cab long bed. I added a Topo Topper and according to truck scales the total weight is now 5400, with an equal distribution front and rear. I do not intend to lift the truck or add larger tires, but would like to stiffen the drive a little and provide better support for the additional weight. I am looking for shock recommendations. Thanks in advance.

 

I’d recommend looking into a new leaf pack and coils for your current shocks, not whole new shocks.

 

You should really get both, rear leaf packs with front and rear dampers/shocks since you have a heavier weight. Yeah, you can add rear airbags or add-a-leaf to your stock suspension and it will ride worse.

Look at Bilstein 5100 shocks and Deaver Stage 1 leaf pack. "buy once cry once" been there.......

 

Assuming the factory bilsteins are on there, to “stiffen up” his ride he would only need to swap out the springs on the front and rear being the coils and leaf pack. No need to buy new shocks as well.

 

Looks like the OP does not have a TRDOR.

 

What’s on the SR’s?

 

Part number crunching says "Hitachi" and they are black.
TRD Sport has firmer blue Hitachis
TRD Off Road Bilstein yellows, which are not 4600, are digressive which means they get softer through travel.

 

Either way what I said above is still an option for OP, but I’d also reccomend getting at least bilsteins if the truck is on hitachi’s.

5100s set to zero lift is ideal. Firm and designed for more load.

Edit: Bigger leaf springs in rear, or bags as interm.

 

I'd definitely look into the Firestone airbags and daystar cradles
