I'm installing a brand new TRD Pro grill and would like to protect it. First thoughts was Hybrid Solutions Ceramic but it left streaks. I followed that with Chemical Guys VRP and it looks good but I not sure it's as protected. Am I over thinking this? Advice welcome. Just trying make it easy wash and keep clean.

VRP is just a dressing and will need to be reapplied every couple of weeks. I've never used the Turtle Wax product, but generally speaking, if you got streaks, you probably used too much and didn't get all of the excess off.

What are you trying to protect it from? Fading?

I appreciate the responses. My thoughts for protection is to prevent bugs/etc from sticking to it..... which is why I thought ceramic was a good idea.

That makes sense. I have some bugs caked on mine and the automatic car washes never seem to get them off good.

Let us know what you find that works.

I will. I'm still hopeful that someone on here has the answer.

I may try the ceramic again. I sprayed it on a MF towel and wiped it on. There is a good chance @Rocketball is right about me applying too much.

Better off with a true ceramic. The ceramic sprays are more like a sealant versus a coating. I would suggest GTechniq C4 or Capro D-Lux, yes more expensive but a little goes a long ways. You can use on other plastic as well.

I appreciate the response. I suspect those are better options being that they are geared toward plastics/etc. I think I'm going to give the the Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions again before I purchase something else.

I did the Turtlewax Ceramic on mine today. Time will tell if it does the job.

What steps did you take? How did it turn out? Any photos?

I did my whole truck yesterday but didn't do much to the grill because of what I previously did. Truck was clean so I wiped down with detailer spray, clay barred, alcohol wiped down and then applied the Turtle Wax HS Ceramic coating as directed. It looks fantastic and I will be applying a 2nd coat today. I also applied to headlights and exterior glass. I'm VERY happy with this product and am encouraged to alcohol while grill and re-apply(currently has the VRP).... but will I..... lol.

Let us know how it does. Always looking for alternatives.

I failed to mentioned the longevity of the coatings. I used C4 on bed caps and tailgate and was able to get over year before needing re-application.

I was in my dark garage when I did it. The paint looks great. The grill, well, that is a little streaky today. I'll hit it again with another coat and see if it looks better.

It was clean and I used a microfiber cloth to apply.

OK guys, I applied my 2nd coat of Hybrid Solutions Ceramic the entire truck. While I was at it, I wiped down the grill with alcohol to remove the Chemical Guys VRP and applied the HS Ceramic. I lightly sprayed a micro fiber cloth and wiped it in, then buffed with clean micro fiber. Here's the results after setting up a few hours. I'll likely apply a 2nd coat today or tomorrow.

    Thanks. I'm happy with it.

That sounds like amazing stuff. I'll make a note on the Gtechniq C4. I appreciate you sharing the info.

Try wiping it down again with just a clean damp microfiber cloth. Sometimes when I apply Carpro Hydro II to my vehicles I get some spotting (heavy spots), and if I wipe over them with a clean damp microfiber cloth they will go away.

I did end up doing a 2nd coat yesterday. I also had a moment in the rain today. Looks great and very happy with this so far.
