I just simply ask for your support and prayers. The holidays are a hard time for me because I lost my father on Dec. 25th long time ago to cancer and my husband Toysareus, last year to cancer. While surrounded by friends and family, I feel so alone.

I have spent over 40 years of my life with this man. When I agreed to marry him, he said I saved his life. I didn’t get to tell him, he also saved mine. We were more than husband and wife. I was his world and he was mine. Though I would tease him, that he was having an affair with his truck. This forum he looked upon as family. Thanks to the many members with their help, mods, and other things. He was going broke enjoying both his 2005, then 2015 Tacoma with mods.

He was a great father & husband. I try and focus my time into my work—nursing, helping others, but there are times that I just sit and cry. Especially during the holidays. Both my father & husband were military heroes. I just want to be with him, for him to hold me, especially at night.

Our kids have been doing OK, except our youngest daughter. I feel better writing this here as it is a place he loved to come to.

Here is a picture of Toysareus with one of our kids. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts and prayers. Dee

Sorry for your losses Dee. It's wonderful you had a great relationship, not everyone receives that gift. God is close to those who are brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18). Rely on him in prayer

I want to thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers. A new year is upon us. I hope it finds all of us in a happier time. My family has made me an offer I can’t refuse. I will be putting in for an early retirement next year to spend more time with my grandkids while I can. I think this is the best route for my life at this time. I miss him so much…

Wishing you nothing but the best going forward, Dee. That sounds like a wonderful opportunity to spend time with your grandchildren. Here’s to a happy and blessed 2023!

    Enjoy that early retirement!

You're not alone- many of us have a tough time during the holidays. In recent years, many churches and similar organizations have started offering "Blue Christmas" or "Longest Night" services, support groups, etc. because the need is so great.

You know, I read through these “member passed away” threads and think wow, these seem to be occurring more often as of late.

But then I realize that these events affect us more as we age. As friends and family pass away, the reality of life and death become more real. That childhood invincibility fades and fades…

The feeling of wanting more time with a loved one, of missing them greatly, are sadly a fact of life. Your loved ones wouldn’t want you to get too caught up in their passing.

I hope I never have to heed my own advice.

    Sorry for your loss.

I am sorry to hear you are feeling so lonely. Your losses are also difficult.

For what it’s worth, seeing the picture of your husband holding one of your children reminded me to spend more time with some of my own children today so thank you for that. Our time is short.

Thank you all so much. I’m back at work today. Nurses don’t get holidays unless they work at a doctors office. I can’t wait to move in with my grandkids, especially while they are still young. Not only do they get their grandma, but their private nurse :) . I hope I have encouraged you as you have encouraged me. Spend more time with your family in 2023. Give them <hugs> and tell them you love them. Please don’t let these words be hollow. Love one another and truly care about each other. Love Dee ❤️

Not much else to say that hasn't already been said. Prayers for you and your family. Stay connected and never worry about expressing your feelings. Thank you to your dad and husband for their service. As a vet myself, I always want to thank someone else when I can.
