Anything welding

Pretty sure your CAD will take me a lot less time …

 

In the photo is a chromolly axle for an RC car. They also come in "spring steel". It's about 50mm long, and 5mm in diameter.

I need to add about 15mm to the axle. I have a tig welder but I've never welding on spring steel before. The little I've read mentions heat treating and cracking. How difficult would a job like this be?

 

You know, there's an upgrade to that program.... Foamcore. nice for thicker stuff! Lol.

I think that's not really a 'flange' option, then. Flange is a sheetmetal/brake cad operation so you're 'buying' all the smarts to get the cad system to make a bend of the correct radius given a particular alloy/thickness. What I do when mocking up 'weldments' of flat stuff is just make separate bodies. So... I when you do your second extrude just select "new body" in the extrude dialog. Then it's easy to take all those bodies and make a drawing, and they all move together like a single part if you add them to an assembly.

 

I was changing out the gas solenoid in my welder, all good now. I took a photo of a component that runs across the main outputs. What is this spiral coper thing? It has a couple wires coming off that I think are thermocouples but I could be wrong. Also, this is a DC welder.

 

Inductance coil maybe?

 

Looks to me like it's a heatpipe with thermocouples, like you said. Maybe just to help cool and monitor (thermal safety) the output lugs that are right there?

Looks like it. I looked up welding inductor and found this. My welder does have hf start so it makes sense.

Why are you wanting to run mig off Genny?

Every time I lost power, there really wasn't time to worry about powering the welder with a generator. A couple of freezers full of beef were waaaay ahead in the line for getting fed voltage.

Can you clarify your question so I know I'm not wasting my time responding?

My farm doesn't have power hooked up yet. Still going through the box layout process w power company and I just have a shipping container with a generator.

I hate stick but its good for the backhoe I guess and that thing rolls nicer than the genny.

Hey, happy new year to y’all! I was thinking how awesome (and funny) it is that of all the places in the internet, a Tacoma forum is my favorite place for welding knowledge. So thanks for that.

This makes me think of this cool but extremely cranky bicycle frame builder who lived out here until he passed away who founded the SOPWAMTOS. Society of people who actually make their own shit. It’s nice to find other members.

 

Been wanting a small, foldable fire pit for the RV. I decided I liked this one. It folds flat when in storage and only has 2 loose parts.

Pretty basic item to copy. I won't know how it cuts until I get back home in March.

 

$100 for a bunch of stainless panels like that doesn't sound all that bad actually.

 

They had 4 sizes. I didn't look to see what price was for the small one. I just assumed the $100 was for the small one. It's like a picnic table top size for roasting S'Mores.

 

I need to get the garage clean again So I can start putting my table together. It went on hold during the divorce, as it would be easier to move a pile of steel tube instead of a big table. Looks Like I am staying in the house until the housing market turns around an interests rate drop again.

I know I will be able to make enough money for it to pay for itself.

I bought that same torch from Primeweld. Awesome deal/love it. A couple of key points: when you mount it, make sure to mount it ABOVE the torch head, only on the barrel; don't coil the excess cable as it will create electrical interference potentially affecting the trigger/fire signal.
