I know many buy the Tacoma because it's fairly easy to mod and make it how you want it plus they look great. Going thru all the comments on here it seems like the ones with aftermarket lifts, tunes, tires and turbos are having all the problems. From codes, 4wd, drive train and engine issues its usually only the modded ones. Few far and in-between do you see a stock vehicle with all the problems.

I’d think it’s a given that a vehicle with aftermarket mods is going to have more issues than one stock. Im sure that’s true for every manufacturer even if the issues are minor.

You're welcome. Lol. Should be noted that the 3rd gen stock Tacoma still has the reliability and durability of previous gens. That's all.

Makes sense, as you are taking away from the Toyota reliability every time you change out for an aftermarket part.

Indeed, the stock vehicle has just timing cover leaks, coolant crossover pipe leak, burned valve, steering rack leak, third brake light leak, bad crank sensor, burned seat heater module, rear diff leak...

What a fair and somewhat anecdotal opinion. Thankyou for taking the time to shed light on a subject that doesn't get spoken about enough.

You will also notice that in many cases where problems arise, the mods were either low quality or something was screwed up in the installation process. Many many people who mod their vehicles do it right and never have problems.

That's really not an opinion lol, that's fact.
Sure, there are stock trucks that have issues but the vast majority of complaints and problems with the truck is after a mod.

I've modded almost everything I've ever owned.....now that I'm getting older I don't have the patience for all the little quirks and issues (or catastrophic failures, been there!) that can pop up with various mods. My old man motto is now "stay stock, stay happy".
My advice is don't go to extremes, buy proven and quality stuff and you'll be ok.

Just bias. While the forum has a lot of modded tacomas a lot of people have issues with their stock vehicles. Part of it comes from that most don’t know how to mod or fab, they watched an idiot on YouTube and took it as gospel.

Exactly. Back in the day when I fucked it up I could only blame myself. Now everyone who messes up can blame YouTube or Instagram.

I’m lifted, tuned, running E load 33s and carry about 600 pounds of extra weight. Zero issues and truck drives amazing.

Did it cross the mind that out of all the Tacomas from the factory, a larger ratio of modded trucks will show up on forums to talk about and compare said mods and upgrades? With that, a higher percent of any failures will be broadcasted across these social media platforms.

All the while, there are many many other frustrated stock Tacoma owners out there in the wild dealing with issues completely unrelated to any kind of lift, turbo, tune, mod, etc yet not broadcasted on social media.

It's a vehicle, it's not perfect. If you drive it it things can happen. If you upgrade, mod, etc, things can happen.

And as pointed out earlier, if subpar parts are used, or even good quality parts are used but installed incorrectly, shit happens, and complaints are made on social media.

Would it be better if those folks that install quality parts correctly with no issues go ahead and boast about this on a daily basis? I'm sure someone will complain about that in some fashion.
