Hi, I called my dealer about FACTORY tonneau cover options for my 2022 shirt bed but they couldn’t definitively answer. So:

    - Does Toyota have both hard and soft trifold covers for the 2022?
    - although they are ‘trifold’ it seems the third panel doesn’t fold up this the bed capacity is usurped if you need the entire length. Is this correct?
    - regardless what is the drainage mechanism for these? Eg. Bakflip mx4 requires new holes for drainage. Something I’d like to avoid if possible.

    many thanks!

The Factory hard cover is only available when it was ordered. You can't get it after that, unless you purchase it used. No drainage, sit on top rails. As for MX4, you don't need drill new holes, just reduce tube with a fitting, and use existing drain holes. I chucked my oem cover and whiched to MX4. Reasons 3rd panel is fix in place and cover leaked, and faded. Yes, you can remove it with one bolt, but what do with it if your out and about. Need to use full bed. MX4 opens all the way. Plus looks better, flush with bed rails.

I have a trifold not OEM. And yes the last third does not fold out of the way. I have only had 2 instances that I needed the extra space since wood slides under it. Those times I took the whole cover off (was easy) and put it in the back seat. I had a solid cover on my previous taco and it was a pain in the rear if you had anything high you needed 2 people to lift it off and then 2 to put it back on.

Just installed my Lund Rollitup (sp?) on my new Tacoma. My last Lund roll up tonneau lasted 15 years and I sold it with my 05 and the guys still running it.

Bought my truck used and it had the OEM tonneau on it. I like it, use it but never haul too much crap in the bed so it works great for me. If you haul a significant amount of anything, the OEM probably won't be what you're looking for.

also keep in mind, while some get lucky or put a lot of work in to them, most do not seal watertight. Since you mentioned not wanting drain lines.
