Yep.. There were a truckload of them... They were local 976-numbers in my 'hood, but they were NOT a local call...

They even made a movie out of them... 976-EVIL

    There was one:
    for the time.
    for the weather.
    for your horoscope.
    for the latest sports scores.
for a joke (really, a joke you can tell your friends).
    for the lottery numbers.
    for soap opera updates.

and then there were the numbers for adult content...

The internet has essentially made these obsolete, and they've gone the way of the pay phone.

The temp was very important info when we were kids. When we left the house in the morning, didn’t know what the day world bring from sun up to sun down…. We needed to prepare and have all of our necessities, as in…. Sweatshirt, jacket, etc.

Some of these I’m familiar with….. some I am not. I’d ask for an explanation on some, but there are children present

Oh I could see that getting ugly... from a certain point of view at least.

I can see my pre-teen self making crank calls to the Operator, asking *stupid* questions, and then getting scolded later when the phone company phoned the parental units to advise them of the situation.

    Good times...

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
I remember our number was hosted by a long gobbled up bank.

It might have been a advertising write off.

I called to see if the phone was working quite often .

My experiences were long before any 976 numbers and they were a local call.

    I had a metal pedal car .

That got destroyed dragging it around with the Horse. Kids were much tougher in those days

All those crashes rolling over a few times a few scrapes and cuts no big deal.

Lunch and Ice Cream at Woolworths was a given.

I had the fire truck version of those same pedal cars, with a chrome bell on the hood, and two tiny wooden ladders that were big enough for a raggedy Ann doll to climb on maybe.

That was in Moses Lake Washington, and when we moved to Phoenix in 1962 it had disappeared. In fact, I don’t remember ever thinking about it again in those days.

I don’t know if my parents sold it because they didn’t want to transport the thing across country, or if it was lost by the moving company.

Moving to Phoenix was a big deal, and somehow in all the excitement my car was completely forgotten. It was eventually replaced by a 26 inch Schwinn Tornado. My mom paid $25 for it at the thrift store slightly used, and in the same condition today it would fetch close to $1000.
