Before you buy a new plastic piece, tray a can of Plexus. I used to use it for cleaning my motorcycle helmet shields, and realized it's great on plastics for cleaning and restoration too. I bought a Honda S2000 and the plastic window on the convertible top was hazy. It took a few times of applying and rubbing it in, but the Plexus made the window look almost as good as new. Good product. Kinda pricey, but it works great.

Sounds like it would probably be a good purchase, according to what you mentioned above. You can also find a used hitch mount cargo carrier that can carry a good amount of gear, fuel cans, etc... for cheap on marketplace. Not suggesting as an alternative to a roof rack, but more of a cheap, easily added and removable addition to a rack. Great for heavy things, bad for clearance on trails with sharp inclines...

I wonder if there's UV protectants that work or protect clear surfaces
I used to put 303 Aerospace Protectant on my softopper body material, but not the window
applied after cleaning, gave a nice matte look but I doubt it lasts longer than a few months

    What is it?

Totally depends on how much UV it is subject to, obviously. The S2000 I bought was all stock, first year ('99) and at 13 years old it only had 15k miles on it. After putting Plexus on the soft top window and all plastics, I kept it garaged 99% of the time. I think I kept it for about 4 years. Doubled the mileage and sold it for 5.5k more than I paid for it. Wish I had kept it as prices on those cars went crazy for stock, low mileage versions. Anyhow, I cleaned that car regularly and the rear window always looked great. Even if you have to apply Plexus once a month to keep plastic clear and moisturized, I'd say it's worth the minute or 2 it takes.
